Not a classic in Tallaght but 3 points are 3 points. No love lost between McEneff and Derry anyway. Roll on Monday.

    That's a sickener tonight.
Not much point complaining about Drennan celebrating after all the stick he got and making a banner about it is stating the obvious really. Poor effort from Forza there.

I meant to ask, what’s the “technicality” Drennan and McCabe left on?
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.

perhaps they can get Caulfield in on the cheap- He's bound to be at a loose end soon.

It should hopefully be a decent game on monday- Boez wont be playing a relegation team so we'll see just how good they are.

    Happy enough with that result.

Either side could have won it.

Aye it puts things in perspective alright, feels like an absolute age ago. Especially given our seasons since then (until now ).

You can never read too much into early season performances, though especially given the injuries there's cause for at least slight concern for Dundalk by their start. If this were a season where there was a more reliable title challenger I'd say that there's only so much of a head start you can give, but ultimately once yous click it should be business as usual.

First time we've won our opening 2 games since 2012, both of which we've done by battling through games we wouldn't have been coming out of the other side of with a win previously. More than happy with that even though the football isn't necessarily there yet, but hopefully Harps at home followed by UCD will see us find some rhythm in time for the Rovers game when we'll likely need it.

Good solid performance by Rovers tonight the wind was something else though coming straight down the pitch from the mountains. Carr was pants in both halves this week cant see him starting on Monday night. Great Crowd considering it was Derry and the Ultra's display in the packed south stand really was excellent. Never know may finish within 10 points of Dundalk.

Will the Super Blues be going up or will the Super Blues be staying put? Tonight's showing in the Markets Field suggests mid table.

Rovers great value for their win tonite. Carr was useless on the wing. Clarke needs to start ahead of him and maybe push Kavanagh up. The Midfield of Jack Byrne, Watt, Finn and McEneff was brilliant and will only get even better in time. The new striker doesn't look decent at all to me and Greene although a willing runner wont be good enough to be a 10 goal striker never mind a 20 goal one. Saying that tho Rovers did look very comfortable. They didn't let Derry get into the game.

Dissapointed with Dan again tonight especially as he finished the season looking so good on the wing. I suppose only 2 games tbf. Trevor Clarke looked fantastic when he came on , you'd nearly forget how good he is he was out for so long. Hopefully starts Monday.

Surely it'd make more sense to play Carr through the middle and Greene on the wing anyway? Granted I obviously don't see an awful lot of Rovers, but as far as I'm aware those are their natural positions, seems counter-productive to do as they are.

car was a winger in England, filled in as a c.f. last season.
Looked really good there end of last season.
New striker doesn't look fit yet but has come on twice with 15 mins to go , scored one (off his big toe) and won the penalty tonight.....have my concerns but if he keeps popping up in the right place who knows

Yeah but we looked most likely.
Narrowing of the pitch-nothing new there and it is the fecking worst pitch in the 32c.Jaysus the bobbles on it at times! but we hit a few posts and had other chances to win as well.

Harps had a great chance just after their goal to make it 2-0 but Shields blocked that like a superman.Harps threw EVERY BODY to defence for 85 minutes and it was hard work for Dundalk to break them down.Harps are a poor side,it must be awful watching them.

    good luck now.

Shels getting a serious result given they were 2-0 down, to win 2-3 away to Galway is a marker clearer and loudly laid down for the rest of the division.

Drogs very unlucky tonight, missed 3 clear goal chances that on another night would have found he back of the net.

Cobh are going to see a lot of red cards this season, they are clearly sent out to get in the opposition faces but they aren’t clever enough - heck at one stage one of them went nose to nose with the ref lol I thought the ref was going to level him. Also I’m convinced they targetted Thomas Byrne given his hothead reputation and he was tackled badly several times but in fairness he kept his calm (a big step forward for him) and he had a great game.

Early days , shels clear favs, Drogs nice football and Athlone no longer the whipping boys.
    Drogheda United in this together
