I watched the election on CNN and enjoyed the coverage. Initially I switched between it and MSNBC but found the latter to be mostly awful; the presenters were like patronising ex-school prefects and the graphics were jarring. It seemed like a liberal flip side to Fox news.
Coverage aside, I had expected Trump to win but not by the margin that he did - winning all the swing states, control of the senate and perhaps the house of representatives, together with the popular vote. Given all that's happened it is without doubt the greatest political comeback in modern history (whether one likes it or not). Now he has an incredible platform to push through his agenda, and I expect a reckoning of some kind after his inauguration.
I really think that a lot of people have to examine the reasons for it, beyond the cult of personality that undoubtedly exists but that too many focus on. Trump is accused of being a populist but that term is often used to mask things which are - popular. The fact is that his ambition for the economy is popular (whatever about the effect of it), his position on immigration is very popular and his approach to foreign policy is very attractive (and for good reason given the last 20 years or so). The Biden administration was comparatively weak on the economy; mostly deaf to the whole issue of immigration (something that's pretty much mirrored on this side of the Atlantic) and blind to the collapse of the immigration system (an asylum system which was meant for small numbers of persecuted people was/is being used by millions to gain entry); and then we have war, war, and more war. Need I say more on the last point? Abortion was the other major issue and it seemed to be the least galvanising one amongst his own support, and the most galvanising amongst his opposition...but it didn't prove to be galvanising enough in the end.
I suspect however that this examination won't happen because the Democrat party, together with the media (if that MSNBC coverage is anything to go by), isn't really capable of it at this point.
And onward this mostly inevitable movement to the Right continues, both over there and (sadly) over here.

A great victory for, Donald J Trump.
Rape? Who did he rape Dermo? Do you have the woman's name? He has been accused of indecent assault by a woman who brought forth a story from a department store encounter 30 years ago. A Manhattan jury found him not guilty. There was that famous pussy comment from way back when, but rape? Who is the victim?
And while we're on the subject of presidents being accused of rape - have you heard anything about Tara Reid lately? No, neither have I.
Illegal trading and refusing to honour debt? He lived a life trading stocks as well as developing real estate, like a multitude of other American millionaires, who behave the same way he does. He is really no different from them. And just for context - the laws in America favor the rich man whenever bankruptcy becomes an issue.
Racist? Can you point me to the racist things he has done please? Maybe we should let the millions of minority voters who voted for him last Tuesday know that he is a racist? Or maybe they can make up their own minds as to what is media lies and what is not.
And lastly, I voted for Mr Trump (the unbridled joy I witnessed in my little corner of America on Wednesday morning was something to behold). But I guess in your eyes I am utter scum. It's like water off a duck's back at this point Dermo. We've been called garbage, deplorables and more recently, facists, racists and nazis. Anyway......life will go on.
It's great to see people accept the democratic wishes of the American people and move on.
Here is the video that doesn't exist....

The phrase "no smoke without fire" can be troublesome, but when it comes to old Donnie, there's a hell of a lot of smoke when it comes to sexual misadventures.

@mark12345 and @seanfhear, you have both been warned multiple times against posting claims without evidence on this forum, and I've noticed several posts in that vein in the past week, I just haven't had time to deal with them yet. Reel it in right now or you will find yourselved suspended or banned from this forum. The same goes for the rest of ye. This is a current affairs forum, back up your claims or don't post.
Meanwhile the Biden administration brings the world closer to WWIII...

Yeah... I dont want this to be interpreted as a they/we thing. It is just meaning to point out the futility of "Trump v Biden" and the drama and polarization that everyone seems to be so addicted to when it comes to US politics. It is just two sides of the same sh!te.
There is some very serious sht going down in the world today (depending on what Zelensky does now) that legitimately is cause for concern.

Dahamsta, in response to your request not to post claims without evidence I am happy to address the issue and give as much evidence as I can for the things I have posted in recent days, as follows:
Seanfhear (who has been addressed along with me) can speak for himself, I’m sure. I have looked back on Sean’s posts and cannot see anything which requires evidence? That’s my interpretation anyway.
Sean has said it was “a great victory for Donald Trump” and he also speaks about the Democratic Party losing twice to Trump and how “out of touch with ordinary people” the Democrats are. They are all subjective opinions on his part, are they not?
As for myself – I have asked another poster (DermoBohs) to provide the name of the woman whom Donald Trump raped, as has been claimed by Dermo. Like yourself, I was looking for evidence and I believe it should have been provided by him. Well, five days have passed and Dermo has not provided a shred of evidence.
Surely he needs to back up that massive allegation against the president-elect of the United States? But at this point, Dermo has just made a baseless claim which he had gotten away with. In fairness, maybe he is right and I’m wrong but if he has a name to bring forward he should do so and clear it all up.
In addition, Dermo has called me scum, not once but twice, just because I have a different viewpoint to his. I couldn’t care less to be honest, but from your own point of view, I thought such language would pique your interest. I stand to be corrected, but I don’t believe I have ever seen any poster on Foot.ie called scum, in all the years I have been on the site.
“Attack the post, not the poster.” Is that not the motto by which we conduct ourselves on this site? It is a good motto and has served everyone well along the way in my opinion.
As for my claims: I have said that Doanld Trump’s staff of thirty-somethings do not possess the same stamina as he does. That was said on the Clay Travis and Buck Sexton radio show last Monday.
Also, I spoke in response to John 83 who said that they (Americans) could not bring themselves to vote for a black woman. The reality is that America has had a chance to vote for a woman and chose not to. They also had the chance to vote for a black man and did so twice. So colour was not the issue as I explained to John and neither was being a woman, if in the view of the American people, she was qualified to do the job.
And then there was the calling of Trump and his supporters Hitler (see link below). For the few weeks leading up to the election Trump was likened to Hitler and of course all associated names (Racists, Nazis and Hitler followers) were bandied about.
One interesting point from today, though. If Trump was Hitler as Americans who tuned into MSNBC were led to believe, then why on earth did the show’s co-hosts meet with him in Mar-A-Largo over the weekend (see link)? Talk about losing your credibility. And why also did Joe Biden shake his hand and yuk it up with Trump at the White House a few days ago, if indeed he is Hitler?
As John83 says: “We definitely get a Dem-leaning slice of American media.”
At what point do we start to question the media and their motives? Imagine having been an avid follower of the Morning Joe show (Joe Scarborough and Mika Brezinsky) for the last few years? How those folks must have felt cheated this morning? Americans have been tuning out the mainstream media for the last several years and it's because of people like Scarborough. The most exposure for both candidates along the campaign trail for president this year was provided by one Joe Rogan (he has more of an audience than any TV channel).

If there is anything you need from me in terms of further evidence, I would be happy to provide it.
Well, seeing as you asked
He was holding less than ten a month until September according to this - https://www.axios.com/2024/09/22/tru...llies-schedule - have you any evidence of the 3-5 a day after that?

Fantastic I remember a time when the doomsday clock moved closer to midnight every time Trump farted. But this irresponsibility from the Biden administration seemingly gets more or less a free pass."It was necessary to bring our principles in line with the current situation," Mr Peskov added, calling the update a "very important" document that should be "studied" abroad.
Russia "has always viewed nuclear weapons as a means of deterrence," he said, adding that they would only be deployed if Russia felt "forced" to respond.

Thanks - so a video does indeed exist. A fairly minor, out of the way one with, indeed, a few thanks and comments (are they real or bots I wonder? We know Israeli AI bots have been planting comments across social media. Can you really claim these comments are all from Irish people?
But even if they are - why do you find the video and its comments "refreshing"? Is it because it agrees with your own views - is that really "refreshing"?
And actually the guy in the video is saying Trump could well be a big economic threat to Ireland because of his desire to bring back the MNCs to America. And he's right in saying this is a risk we've created for ourselves, in getting rid of sustainable local industries and replacing them with MNCs - it's delivering money for now, but it leaves us hugely exposed. (He also talks about issues of homelessness and medical care in America and hopes they'll improve in general - without mentioning Trump, which is just as well, as Trump is hardly likely to improve them)
But still, that's one thing a Trump election could well mean for Ireland - a huge economic risk. Really other than that, he's saying "Let's wait and see", which is hardly a revolutionary message.
Trump is also likely to impact Ireland in terms of greater European insecurity (if Trump sides with the Russians, helping embolden them) and in terms of climate change (which Trump doesn't believe in - the Democrats and even us in Ireland are hardly doing much in this area, but someone so prominent popularising the idea that climate change isn't a thing is hugely dangerous for society in general). For Irish in America, he's likely to impact them in terms of worse healthcare for example (the US is already an outlier in the western world in having a declining life expectancy and an increasing infant mortality, both based off pretty poor initial rates) - he's already nominated someone who wants to ban vaccines to fill a major health role.
I'm not sure what in this you find refreshing or encouraging.
Wow Stu, you have given me a lot to chew on with this post.
Believe it or not, I agree with some of your views but don't on others.
Where to begin?
Well, you say the US is an outlier in the Western world in terms of healthcare and life expectancy. Don't get me started on US healthcare.... or lack thereof. Let me put it to you this way. You turn on a football game on a Sunday afternoon (American football that is) and the commercials throughout the first half are all about chicken wings and burgers and all manner of foods. Then comes the second half of the game and your commercials change to antacids and digestive medication. The point being that healthcare in America is a big money-making industry. They bamboozle the nation into eating unhealthy foods and then come running to the rescue with taxpayer-funded medications. They have their own lobbyists who go to Washington every couple of years in order to make sure politicians vote in favor of their needs. It is alleged that for every $20 spent on a new drug in America, $19 goes to advertising and $1 goes towards research.
So the healthcare industry is more interested in keeping you dependent on drugs (unhealthy in other words) than curing you. In that regard, Robert Kennedy, who is about to become Trump's healthcare overlord, is going to go to town on American healthcare. He has already said he wants to take fluoride out of the water as it causes cancer in adults (and kids) and he is also going to take the additives out of foods (we here in America have a lot of additives in our foods, apparently, which you do not allow in Europe). It does not surprise me in the least. And my own opinion on this is......I don't care how much a person does not like Donald Trump, if he or she does not support Kennedy's upcoming crusade on the food / pharmaceutical industries......well how can anyone take them seriously?
And one more thing - why has no other politician before Kennedy / Trump brought this particular issue to light? I think you can figure out the answer to that one.
One other note on healthcare: Hospitals are closing at an alarming rate—four recently in Massachusetts. Overcrowding is the norm, and with that many more people to treat because of immigration, it is quite chaotic in present-day America. This is a very serious issue that is not getting the attention it deserves in the media. Why? Because it would show the current administration in a bad light.
Anyway, on to other things.
I have no idea if the video is a product of AI or attributable to bots. But I was asked to show evidence and that I did.
A general point (not necessarily directed towards you), but I feel slighted by having to "prove" or provide "evidence" for everything I post. My view of life in America is shaped by what I see in front of me every day (you have similar issues in Ireland, mass immigration and a media that cannot be trusted). And my particular view of life and the direction of the country, which has been questioned quite a bit on this forum, was shared by tens of millions of Americans last Tuesday.
Why do I find the video refreshing? Because for the longest time, I have heard Irish people, including some family members, criticize Donald Trump. And now they are congratulating him? Why? It's like they (like millions of Americans) have seen the light, and that to me is refreshing. And from what I have seen, many in the UK feel the same way. I love Ireland and want nothing but the best for my homeland. I don't see Donald Trump holding against the Irish people. Indeed he may be the buffer between the world and WW3 if no one is able to intervene between Biden and his war happy handlers.
On another note, I would be interested to know your thoughts on the media throughout the Western world? It is my firm belief that our current problems begin and end with the media. Surely, you don't believe that they are telling us all of the truth all of the time? If you don't believe they are, that makes you perceptive, intelligent and quite normal to be honest. So I think you and I have that in common.
