    Most likely team;
    Randolph
    Coleman, Duffy, Keogh, Brady
    Browne, Arter, Hendrick, O'Dowda
    Maguire, Long

    I don't think there's likely to be any experimentation. It'll be close to full strength and lots of experience. Probably a back 4 with the full-backs pushed right on. Diamond in the middle with Arter holding, Hendrick and Browne in front and O'Dowda floating off the front. Long and Maguire up front.

    Hourihane, Doherty and McLean or McGeady will get off the bench. Maybe McGoldrick or Curtis off the bench either.

    I just can't see there being any major experimentation. It'll be experience and form, even though it is only Gibraltar. Mick is not there to build anything, it's a one campaign stint, he won't take any chances.

    Yeah, any bullishness I was having about new personnel is gone, if anything I'm more concerned with comments attributed to him about coleman and doherty.

    I think he's going to go with this:

    Randz
    Coleman, Duffy, Keogh, Stevens
    ---Hourihane---Arter---Brady
    ------McGoldrick--McClean----
    --------------Long---------------
    Here they come! It’s the charge of the “Thanks” Brigade!

    Randolph
    Coleman Duffy Stevens
    Williams
    Doherty Hendrick Arthur McClean
    McGoldrick/Browne
    Maguire

    Holding Mid needs to be able to pass and set the tempo, until McCarthy is fit, I will go with williams, who is a really nice passer of the ball. Stevens and coleman in the three is controversial but Stevens has being played there for SU recently and his is a really good footballer in decent form. You have to have Doherty in his best position! Arthur in with Hendrick as I dont trust Jeff beside anyone who doesnt work. Brady in and out of Burnleys team so have left him out.

    League 1 is bad enough but Amond is 31 in April and playing in League 2. Sure he got the odd goal in the FA Cup, but it is atrocious stuff, whether provisional squad or not, to be calling up a player from that league. It is setting the bar at an extremely low level altogether. I'll believe it when I see it.

    I'm not sure John Fallon has got much right recently.

    Just by him mentioning that McCarthy could turn to Richard Stearman tells me that he hasn't a clue.

    38 players. Okay, that doesn't tell us much.

    Almost exact same players as before. No additions, nothing. There is nobody 'new' there that will make any sort of a difference whatsoever.

    I wasn't really expecting much else, given our potential recruits are all works in progress. I thought it might be a smaller provisional squad though so we'd get an idea of the way he's thinking, but there are literally no exclusions worth mentioning? Maybe Liam Kelly, at a push, but he's barely making Reading squads.

    GK: (3) Randolph, Westie, Kelleher;
    FB: (3) Coleman, Doherty, Stevens;
    CB: (4) Duffy, Egan, Long, Dunne
    DM: (2) Arter, Williams
    Wing: (3) McGeady, Horgan, McClean;
    CM/AM: (6) Judge, Hendrick, Browne, Brady, O'Dowda, McGoldrick;
    ST: (3) Maguire, Collins, Curtis;

    Total: 24.

    I'm justifying the above with the following logic:
    1 recognised left-back in Stevens, given Brady and McClean's versatility. Doherty has to be considered a right-wing also. With regard to the strikers, we need strikers who can score goals. Long is not scoring goals. neither is O'Brien. I don't consider McGoldrick a striker, he's a link man who scores goals. Horgan is playing well. If I was to drop 1 to make a 23, I'd probably drop McGeady. I think the above squad I've whittled down, gives plenty of options to vary the tactics too. I'm assuming greg cunningham is still injured.

    From that I'd go with:

    vGib:

    ------------------Westwood--------------
    --------Coleman---Duffy---Stevens----
    -------------------Williams----------------
    Doherty----------Browne--------Horgan
    ----------ODowda-------McGoldrick-----
    -------------------Maguire-----------------

    vs Geo:

    ------------------Westwood--------------
    Coleman-----Duffy----Egan-----Stevens
    -------------------Williams----------------
    Doherty----------Browne--------ODowda
    -----------------McGoldrick----------------
    -------------------Maguire-----------------

    Bamford says he wants to join up according to Mick and he is expected in the June squad.

    Bamford and Crowley improve the squad in a positive way in an attacking sense. In that regard, you'd have to be fearful for someone like Judge, or Hourihane, if you're weighing up possible replacements.

    Robinson and Obafemi to come back too. Attacking options will be grand when all fit and available.

    We've not seen much from Obafemi to justify the hype - yet. I haven't anyway. Robinson has looked good in a green jersey, because he wants to get on the ball and attack defenders. Bamford potentially is the wild-card.

    I suppose it will be interesting to see what style of play he employs. We'll get an idea from his midfield choices. I saw quotes attributed to him saying he won't pick Doherty and Coleman, therefore I'd assume he won't play with wingers, because Doherty is the only one you could put wide right at the moment.
    In that situation is he expected to play 2 up top and have the runners coming from central areas. between centre back and full back rather than outside the full-back. Interesting times.

    eg:

    ------------------------Maguire-------------------------

    -------Bamford------------------------R/son/McG-------
    ^^^^ ^^^^
    -----------------Browne-------Hendrick-----------------
    ^^^------------------Williams-----------------------^^^
    Stevens-----------------------------------------Coleman

    Crowley worth checking out. Maybe Graham Carey at plymouth but he seems to have gone off the boil lately, over 30 also.

    The short termism of McCarthys contract is going to lead to him taking a short term view with regards to recruits, asking players to pro long careers and blooding young players. Its not his fault really. We wanted a revolution but this will have to be postponed until Kenny takes over.

    Looking at the squad briefly, I'd cull Meyler, Whelan, Keogh, Almond, Mcgeady, Hogan straight away.

    surprised Josh didnt get a mention!
