    Opening weekends fixtures

Really looking forward to tomorrow night away match in Waterford. Big Rovers crowd traveling, allocation sold out, what will this season bring, tbh nothing would surprise me with Rovers, Mid table mediocrity, euro places battle or even vying for the title. Home games will be different with potentially two singing sections us aul fella's in the west and the Ultra's in the new.

Should be a big Harps crowd in Dalymount too. First time I'll miss first game of the season in about ten years though, and I'm gutted.

Hard to know how Harps will get on, don't think Ollie has gone full strength in any pre-season game, and keeps his cards close to his chest right up to kickoff tomorrow night.

Hopeful we can get a decent result. Need to start strongly and not end up chasing teams from the first few weeks.

Great to be back and really looking forward to going to Oriel this evening.

Matches at Richmond and RSC should also be fascinating. I suspect neither the demise of Cork or the rise of Pats will be apparent tonight, while Shams should be way too strong for a Waterford team feeling their way.

Cork will beat us.... which would be so Pats. We'll get up and running then.

I've got the same feeling. Think we'll gather momentum over the course of the season but can see the usual story against Cork tonight where we all say we were the better side but end up dropping a 1-0 or something.

jazus lads, even for LOI fans such pessimism is impressive usually 2/3 matches before reality kicks in, that's why we love opening night so much !

I'd definitely take a repeat of the first game last year! Without the sending off ideally.

It will be telly for me sadly, too far away from fixtures tonight. It will be interesting to see what Sligo are like under Buckley, as this is a genuine test for him. Great to have the league back. Shamrock Rovers could be interesting this year.

Excited to finally watch Dundalk again. I'm cautiously optimistic about the new coaching setup. I'll be keeping an eye on the pats v Cork game though, good chance for Pats to show any potential title credentials they have (which I don't think they do have personally)

How has the Sligo keeper not been sent off here?

Does the double punishment rule come into it? Penalty and a yellow rather than a red? Is that even a rule?

Looks like a break for Benson. Nightmare of a start.

Only a rule if the player made a genuine attempt for the all, which seems a stretch

Oh that could well be it - although he wasn't booked either I think.

I thought he did what he did considering the awful defending

I think the ref just forgot with the treatment taking so long. Definitely worthy of a yellow at least.

He was talking to the linesman through his mic - maybe clarifying the rule? - and had the Dundalk players talking to him as well; I'd be amazed if he forgot.

Derry v UCD commentary here by the way. Sounds like we're doing ok. Haven't lost in Derry in five games going back to 2011!

Waterford get the first goal; Rovers drop into the relegation zone.

I thought when they cut back from the first replay it looked like ref was walking back from keeper and putting card back in his pocket.

Overall not a great game so far. Pretty scrappy, seems to be the story of the night so far, cagey all around and no goals.

Fairy nuff. No graphic, and the commentators mentioned no yellow - but then Fenlon did think it was Duffy who'd been injured, so he probably wasn't paying too much attention.

Nothing on extratime either about a yellow

Sean Murray looks lost since coming on for Benson.
