In 1985 Everton qualified for the European Cup, but were prevented from entering by Liverpool

In 2005, what if Everton finish fourth, and Liverpool win the CL??

The winner of the CL gets automatic qualification the next year so I assume this won't change the number of places for English teams. It will still be 4 (first two automatic and 3rd/4th place go through one qualifying round).

I assume it also means that if LIverpool or Chelsea win the CL and also come in the top four in the PM then the 5th place team in the PM will get the fourth ENglish CL place instead of Liverpool or Chelsea..

A country can't have more than 4 teams in the CL. The winners don't automatically qualify; it's up to the their association, the (English) FA in this case, whether they want to put them forward. If they do, the fourth team in the league are entered in the UEFA Cup instead.

No. The FA have been told they have four places in next years CL, no matter who wins. It is up to the FA to decide, and they have indicated giving automatic qualification to the winners (if it's an English club)

So if Liverpool win, and finish 5th, then Everton would not qualify even after finishing 4th. That would be some kick in the teeth for the team

IF[SIZE=7] Liverpool win, does that mean that the 2nd placed team in the PL must go through qualifying rounds like they were the 3rd placed team?

I think the holders are automatically given top seed status the next season, in which case, it would happen as you have it.
