Down with this kind of thing as Father Ted would say. Time it stopped.
McCarthy met his agent and was trying to meet the player, and no one checked first to see if he qualified. What a spectacular waste of time.

    ⚽ Gavin Bazunu praised highly.
⚽ David McGoldrick won't be returning.
⚽ Yes Seamus Coleman and Matt Doherty can be accommodated in the team.
⚽ Neither Callum O'Hare or Nathan Redmond (a real surprise) are eligible.
⚽ John Joe Patrick Finn is considering his options.
⚽ Josh Cullen has taken his game up a level at Anderlecht and gives us an option. Chief scout watched him in action last weekend. Good indication he could be a starter.
Liam Delap has been contacted but remains an England player.
⚽ Chief scout Ruairi Higgins will be at the EFL cup final this weekend at Wembley and will report back on assist-king Aiden McGeady and Lee O'Connor.
Kenny's comments on Delap: ‘He is a good prospect, but he is part of the England setup at the moment and we have to respect that.’

I say to heck with that! They didnt "respect" Declan Rice's *spits* role in the Irish set up when Gareth was doing up his powerpoint. We need to pursue these guys aggressively.

We couldn’t keep Rice or Grealish and we had them in our camps at different times . Even kidnapping won’t work if they don’t want to play for us.

Just don’t show the FA too much respect along the way is my point. Check in often, make promises, show 1916 videos... etc etc

I don’t understand how that’s possible but who knows. His mother confirmed that he was eligible. Can’t remember if it was via a parent or a grandparent.

    Really weird one

You might have a van, but seeing as you can't bloody drive, it doesn't really matter :-)

Why is Redmond not eligible? Isn't his mother Irish?

I'd say he's eligible but has chosen England.

Could have been just trying to put this one to bed permanently. It must be blooming annoying being constantly asked about these fellas that do not want to play for us all the time.

The main question was his eligibility for Ireland and because of his Irish mother he remains eligible for Ireland until he's capped competively for Jamaica
Not only am I up, I'm way past you

It was incorrect to claim he wasn't eligible for Ireland.

When Mick talked with Redmond's agent, had Redmond already decided to declare for Jamaica? I'd say Redmond declared his intentions since Mick's time.

No, I agree with the question here from Geysir. There is a difference between not being eligible for us and not wanting to play for us. I think we were all under the impression that his mum is Irish... is that not the case? Or is it due to his caps underage or his cap in the friendly a couple of years ago?

Afaiu, Irish mothered Nathan is still eligible to declare for us until he togs out for Jamaica in a competitive match. At the time Mick talked with the agent, Redmond had not publicly stated his intention to declare for Jamaica.

The misunderstanding is Kenny's (alleged) use of the word "ineligible" and some posters here thinking that meant Redmond was ineligible when Mick tried to tap him up
