I think it's clear he's picking players for roles. Arter wasn't really performing his natural role. The other 5 were playing roles that should come naturally enought to them.

It would appear (based on a small sample) that he picks his favoured 433 which is

    .......GK
    RB CB CB LB
    ......DM......
    --AM---AM
    RW--9--LW

9 being a traditional tall centre forward

The debate now I think is whether those ahead of the defence should be

    ----DM--DM---
    -------AM--------
    RW----9----LW

    or

RM--CM--LM (all generally solid / workers rather than creators)
    -----10-----
    --CF----CF---

I read the Roy Keane article on S:K soooo spot on,
Roy rips his strategy into pieces, and asks for better decisions when a chance arises. He worries about the lack of scoring chances created for the last 5 games, He claims there is no aggressiveness and no urgency in the last third of the pitch, and a growing lack of x factor to take those chances up front

One unlucky competitive game, and 4 friendly games used to introduce his style of play. Yes, lacking penetration but hopefully it will come over the next few months as our attacking talent comes through. Early promising signs but patience required. Ridiculously early for judgement

I'll give you x-factor but aggressiveness and urgency in football are buzz words? Really? They were the main attributes that Keane built his playing career around.

I'd assume he's referring to a lack of "lump it up to Jonny Walters"?

Kenny lives in Ireland I presume. He can't go to LOI matches under restrictions, never mind any UK or Belgium matches or anywhere else. He'll have to sign up for sky sports I suppose and watch match dvd's like Trap used to do. I just googled Trap actually, just to see what he's up to. He's 81 now and he actually hasn't manged anyone after us. Sad way for him to end. We had good days under him though. If we brought him back to help Kenny, we could have a new take on the Robson/Staunton regime. A mixture between Trap's version of Catenaccio and Kenny's version of Barcelona's style. His style In Irish that would be teagmháil - dteagmháil. I don't think that's catchy enough to gain any popularity though.

I had deleted about 5 different responses I had written to that for fear I'd be banned from the forum... lets just say if you are not joking I disagree strongly!

I meant after level 5 comes in. I suppose he's still working, essential journeys.

I’d suspect after November’s games, he’ll go across to England for a few weeks. He’s mentioned how he couldn’t go across because he’d have to isolate for 2 weeks after and with the games happening every month, he wouldn’t have time, but with LOI ending, no reason he couldn’t go across after the games and come back some point before Christmas. Or alternatively, stay for Dundalk’s last games and then go after Christmas.

He's still allowed in - scouting for the national team would be considered the same as the media, who are allowed in.

Its interesting how few of our managers have gone on to do anything managerial wise after their stint with Ireland, apart form McCarthy first time round. Charlton never managed again, either did Stan or Trappatoni. Martin O'Neill got a gig briefly at Forest before getting the boot, will struggle to get anything decent again, as will Keane. Kerr with the Faroes and no one else i think? McCarthy struggling this time around and boring everyone with his co commentary. Not great really. And probably a sign we have not really hit upon the good managers on their way up.

    That, or we're a reputation-killer.

I'd put a lot down to the age profile of managers we attract and also acquired.

Stan got the Darlington job after Ireland, no? Then again, maybe it's not worth mentioning!
