Then again, he was a scoring sensation at QPR (which doesn't take much) as a teenager, might have been under a lot of pressure to declare for England whereas the brothers wouldn't have been.
Noel Whelan was different in that he was actually persued by the FAI and turned it down. He made his choice but decided he wanted to play for Ireland when it became clear that he had no hope of English caps.
