    Sligo

Lads, A Ramblers fan here, can any of you who were in Sligo give an honest appraisal of what Sligo are like, seeing as we are playing them next week?

Well comic book guy, going on our performance last night, they're all going to say we're ****e, cos last night we were. But, in fairness we are a good team who just had a terrible game last night and hopefully we'll turn it around again next saturday. May the best team win
Life without Rovers, it makes no sense...it's a heartache...nothing but a fools game. S.R.F.C.

Sligo arent up to much as a footballing side IMO If you can cut off their supply of quality ball from the wings into the centre they become an idea-less, lost sort of bunch. Limerick went up with a gameplan to disrupt this ball and were absolutely superb. They played Sligo off the park particularly in the second half when Sligo simply had'nt a clue how to get at the Limerick defence. Even among the Sligo fans I spoke to the general concensus was that Limerick were the far better team.

Lads if we get the ball down on the ground and play as well as we did Saturday for the rest of the season then we will be well up there challenging

I wouldn't fully agree with Gael's player ratings. Personally myself I think the following is more accurate and fair...

Mooney - 8/10, dealt brilliantly with crosses. Had no real shots on target to deal with it but finally started to look the part. Has to improve his kicking and talk to the defence more. We all agree though, he's a nice guy and clapped us at half time and full time so maybe 9/10.

O'Mahony - 7/10, a better performance which he needed to justify his selection. The Sligo attacks came more down the Limerick left side and therefore wasn't as busy as Tobin but he did well. His distribution was better than the previous games.
Tobin - 9/10, Donnellan didn't do him any favours and he did very well considering that the majority of the Sligo attacks came down his channel constantly. Good distribution and strong in the tackle, no one was ever going to beat him.
Wolfe - 7/10, didn't do anything wrong. He covered Finny well and cleared the ball everytime. There are still doubts about his physique at centre back and doesn't appear commanding, the jury is still out on him.
Finucane - 7/10, dependable as ever. My only concern was his positioning was poor at times and got sucked in too easily and allowed space at the back.

Nolan - 7/10, things were quieter on his side in regards to defending. A player with obvious skill and when he gets going he is very good attacking. In the second half he dribbled past players and got in crosses. Should have scored but unfortunately had too much time on the ball and volleyed against the crossbar.
Donnellan - 5/10, defensively he was very poor. He was beaten too easily and was the weak link of the team in that sense. Offered nothing going forward until the latter part of the match. Seems to have developed an attitude, the meak boy has grown into an angry young man and will be send off again before the season is over. Chris Kearns should have come on for him.
Barrett & Molan - 7/10, and thats being kind. Defensively they were solid but offered nothing going forward. They didn't boss midfield in the first half which starved our strikers of any ball going forward. At times we needed a ball player in the middle of the field.

McCarthy & Kelliher - 7.5/10, with no ball going forward to them until the second half it was always going to be difficult for them. They both worked hard and linked up play well. Derek in the first half with nothing on created a good chance for himself and Robbie was unlucky not to score in the second half. There is great potential in this strikeforce so I hope NOC sticks with them for the Dublin City game and gives it a chance to develop.

Again its quite noticeable that whenever we start passing the ball around we tend to boss the game and create decent chances and in that regard we were by far the better footballing team compared to Sligo's style of play. We should avoid the standard first division style of play of hoofing the ball down the wing, it doesn't suit us.
Limerick 37, its so shiny and new we dare not take the cover off.
