    What McCarthy needs to do....

It seems obvious that Derek won't get picked by NOC if he only comes on as sub and does the business. Derek has to think not only outside the box, he has to think off the football pitch altogether. So I've decided to come up with a list of thing that he has to do, to try and convince NOC to give him a chance...

    1. Hand pick the lottery numbers for him
    2. Rescuse his pet cat 'Lucky' from a burning inferno
    3. Remove that splinter from his eye, thats being affecting his 'eyesight'
    4. Solve the last word clue in his daily crossword
    5. Collect his dry cleaning for a month
    6. Set him up on a date with the Jennifer Anniston

If and when McCarthy does all of these, then it seems he may finally get his hands on the No. 9 jersey, because it seems its the only way 'The Gaffer' will listen..

The Mighty Derek !! does the business again. Surely now even NOC can see that we are starting with 10 men when O'Brien plays. Maybe next Sat Derek will start at last.

Attenance was 650 people last night. That is a great figure considering the weather and the "Champions" League - (When did Liverpool win a Championship ?).

3 badly needed points but we still look very shaky at the back. Why was Timmy Lynch not playing as Wolfie was suspended ? Conor Molan , in my mind, is not a centre half.

Great result - we needed that win. Good attendance too. I am surprised to read that Conor started centre half. I liked Timmy Lynch in the two games he played last season - and he is a bona fide centre half. It is time to gibe Derek a start. Obviously he is chomping at the bit - and if NOC continues to deny him then he will get disillusioned and you won't even see his impact as a sub. Dropping CP would be interesting. Always the player who is out of favour feels he has something to prove when he comes on - to get the best of CP I think its time to show him he is not guaranteed first team football. I think that was the problem with his attitude last season - and he is likely to contineu in the current form if he thinks he doesn't have to fight for his place.

I thought Conor played well for the most part last night, he has played at centre-half for Limerick before. That said it was his header (I think) that gifted Kilkenny their goal. I think the reasoning behind leaving Lynch out was that he hasn't gotten any football yet. It's not much of a reason to my mind at this early stage but there you go.

Its also a Catch 22 - not being picked because you haven't played yet and not playing yet because you haven't been picked.

No argument from me there but I was told that's why Timmy Lynch wasn't 'risked' against Kilkenny. I'd be inclined to take it with a grain of salt though, our 'reserves' had a match in the last coupla weeks anyway.
