    WYW v UCD Waves

With the league trophy already safely tucked away, Wexford completed their league campaign with a 1-1 draw against UCD Waves after conceding a late goal scored by the very useful former WYW player, Sinead Gaynor. Wexford made six changes from the team which started against Cork and went with Ciamh, Ciara, Cliodhna, Lauren, Doireann, McKenna, Aoife, Hutch, Becky, Katrina and with Aisling up front. First half was relatively even although Wexford finished strongly. On 15 minutes, Lauren Dwyer clipped the top of the UCD cross-bar with a header at the far post from a Becky Cassin free. However, two minutes later, UCD themselves had a header just over the bar at the far post. Relatively few chances from then on until towards the end of the half, when Wexford’s Becky Cassin couldn’t finish when well-placed inside the UCD area and then Katrina Parrock had a good effort well-saved by Erica Turner in the UCD goal. 0-0 at half-time.

Second half saw Lolly Conlon coming on in place of Lauren Dwyer for Wexford with, no doubt, the cup-final next week uppermost in the mind of Wexford’s manager, Tom Elmes. Little occurred of note until the hour-mark,when Orla Casey came on for Wexford in place of McKenna Davidson. Ciamh Dollard then made a good grab in the Wexford goal to keep out a decent UCD effort and this was followed by Wexford’s best spell of the match. Firstly, Aisling Frawley was sent free down the right and her unselfish cross found Katrina Parrock who planted the ball home to put Wexford in front. Becky Cassin then had a shot a yard over for Wexford and Aisling Frawley also had an effort just over the UCD cross-bar. With Nicola Sinnott coming on as a late sub for Aisling Frawley, UCD pulled back the goal deficit when Sinead Gaynor knocked a volley inside the Wexford area to the top corner of Ciamh Dollard’s net for a 1-1 result at full-time. With Rianna Jarrett still wearing a cast on her foot as a result of her broken toe, you can’t see her being fit for the final in the Aviva which may just swing the balance in favour of Peamount. 1-1 at full-time.
