Remember hearing that when Longford were starting out they sought help from other clubs and Bohs sent them a set of jerseys (red and black) and that they retained the colours to this day. Longford county colours are blue and yellow and are reflected in the away gear if I recall correctly ?

That’s correct on the home kit. As for the away kit we only adopted the county colors during Stephen Kenny’s reign he wanted to create a closer link with the rest of the county. It worked too. These days we wear just yellow, been a good few years since it was blue and yellow.

it must be 2005 since we had our away jersey in those colours! we had a dark away jersey in 2015 but it was a dark blue with red and black trim in the middle but that doesnt count!
Gary Cronin is he the right man to manage Longford Town?

What's all this "county colours" nonsense? More accurately, these are the county GAA colours that are being spoken of.

Its pretty obvious that it would be to try and connect with a broader community. Might grab some limited attention in more rural areas or counties especially where there is just the one club and carries the same name as the county eg Longford. Kilkenny City, Kildare County, Dublin City, Monaghan United were all roaring successes and dabbled in cross code colours marketing. Galway United play in the maroon of the county GAA colours, Waterford in Blue and White, Thurles Town were blue and gold. Maybe O'Neills talked clubs in to it back in the day when designs never mind colours were similar.

Didnt Tom Coghlan fly the idea of Cork City changing their main colours to red and white? If Dundalk tried it we'd be in red and white also!! An Offaly club would have an interesting kit.

Limerick wore red and white Stripes originally until Waterford went bust and they bought their kits. Limerick used to wear red and white striped away kits although recent years has seen us wear green 🙄

No. But we did wear red as the main colour back in the Dave Barry stint. Wasn't popular and we reverted quickly enough.

I like the Pats kit, massive improvement on that dreadful blue yoke of the last couple of seasons that was near identical to certain Limerick and Waterford ones.

They can absolutely g'way looking for 65 quid for it though.

It looks like they are from the same supplier as Hummel and some others.

Galway United had some custom kits for the past few season, but as with Bohs it looks like there was a much longer delay in getting them delivered. We seem to have gone with a generic maroon kit and a yellow away one, which I think may be a first for us.
I phoned the speaking clock to hear a voice speak, it said - "At the tone you will be very much alone"

Yeah, I think it looks nice. Simple and unfussy. Sticking to the red and white for the away kit. Is a good idea I think.
Out for a spell, got neglected, lay on the bench unselected.

Like that new pats strip if I was a supporter I'd def buy it. 65 quid is alright IMO . Loi clubs struggle with minimum orders, we should all support our clubs by buying the kit and promoting the club by wearing it, IF u can afford it.

A friend of my dad's who's a Longford Town fan told me that when I was a kid, recently I tried to read in to it and found nothing so just assumed it was one of those lies you tell kids for the laugh. Madness that it's true haha

was told in our club shop today that clubs make very little profit from selling their jerseys. is this the case?

    Depends on the deal.
Premier league clubs are sponsored by manufacturers in that the likes of Nike, Adidas play the clubs a set amount per year for the rights to make their kit then they get the actual proceeds from sales and not the clubs.
Then there's the possibility that clubs have a deal either with a supplier or a third party so that they buy kit at x quid per item and sell for y to make profit.
I'm not privy to the exact nature of deals clubs get here but I'd doubt brands are lining up to get to buy the rights from the likes of Longford, no offence, to produce their kit so it's likely that smaller clubs for sure and maybe even the bigger clubs unless they're with a local or small supplier use the latter method or something similar.
