    Scotland at the crossroads

Given that this forum was partly my suggestion I thought i would get the ball rolling (I lacked the imagination for a new thread title though so i pinched one from the current affairs forum).

They seem a mess. Strachan sounds a lot like a man who wants out, but if they put him out of his misery who on earth do they go to to take it on?

It's all a hell of a turnaround since i trudged out of Celtic Park 2 years ago

I feel if they had qualified for the Euros they wouldn't be in this mess.

    No. It would be us.

The list of bookies favorites to be the next guy isn't exactly inspiring.

    Alex McLeish
    Paul Lambert
    Derek Mcinnes
David Moyes (and that probably depends on him getting the boot from Sunderland)

I could see Moyes or Lambert do a decent job there. I think moyes lost a lot of confidence after the Man U experience and the different challenges of international football might see him being the best out of himself again.

Moyes would be perfect for Scotland. The expectations are manageable and he would make them hard to beat.

Btw it's debateable whether they're in a proper mess or not. Dropping points at home to Lithuania would not have been part of the plan, but defeat away to Slovakia cannot be a surprise, nor will a defeat in Wembley. After that, you could argue that they could easily go undefeated for the rest of the group, and England aside there is not one game that they shouldn't be thinking about winning. They could very easily finish runner-up. Strachan looks like yesterdays man.

If they can get something at Wembley in the next round of games they can get back into contention, but the bookies would suggest the group will look a lot like

    England 10 pts
    Slovenia 8 pts
    Slovakia 6 pts
    Lithuania 5 pts
    Scotland 4 pts
    Malta 0 pts

Strachan has been loyal to his players, which is admirable, but they have let him down. It's probably time for him to freshen things up.

They have some good players, but they almost all either left backs or right wingers. It will be terribly hard for anyone to find a balanced side.

Strachan was asked after the game about his thoughts for the future, he rambled on about talking to family etc, then as an afterthought, as if it suddenly struck him, he litterly accuses the journalists of saying that he be thinking only about himself. Strachan then embarks on a weepy monologue, how unselfish he is and thinking about everybody elses' pain.
Cantankerous just doesn't quite describe Strachan.

I think it's the shirt though, virtually impossible for a Scot footballer to feel great in a ridiculous shirt like that.

Why they've stuck with that kit since 1998 is beyond me.

I felt sorry for Scotland. I thought they actually played well, and really they had some glorious chances to go ahead before each of England's goals. That was one of the most unfair 3-0's I've seen. England were atrocious.

The bookies have stopped taking bets on Moyes to replace Strachan.

Can't say i can see this going well if it is going to be him.
