I was a relieved man last night. 3 points were invaluable to keep us in touch and thankfully the boys done the business. i couldn't make it last night but what was the attendance like??
1st 3 points of many (hopefully) this season and while the performance was n't the best well in games like this, the result will be more welcoming than the performance. The conditions played their part in making the game very scrappy although Lims deserved their victory. They had may chances in the 1st half, but couldn't get the breakthrough, and as luck would have it, Kilkenny scored from some sloppy defending by Finny and Molan allowing one of their guys unmarked to slot past Mooney from just inside the box.It took until NOC took his head outta his *** and put on McCarthy for "Can't Pass" before we eventually made our superiority pay off.5 mins later we went from 1-0 to 2-1 ahead. So in a summation......................................... ...............
LEAVE CP ON THE BENCH, OR IN CORK IF YOU LIKE, AND GIVE DEREK HIS NO. 9 JERSEY FOR KEEPS..........
1. Mooney 7/10..... Not much to do (phew) but what he did was ok.
2. O'Mahony 5/10.. Distribution terrible again, give Aherne a chance.
3. Tobin 7/10........ Soild enough performance.
4. Finny 7/10........ Not one of his better games but conditions were bad and
didn't have a recognised C/B with him.Why didn't Timmy
Lynch play.
5. Molan 6/10........ Like Conor but has he ever played C/B before, not a tiime
to go experimenting IMO. Timmy should have started.
6. Conlan 6/10....... put himself about was lucky not to have been booked
early in the game.
7. Nolan 6/10......... Right side very poor all night not enough ball put in from
side, he and Stevo are weak links, last night anyway.
8. Barrett 7/10........ Took his goal well and played well in patches but again
conditions were poor on the night.
9. Can't Pass 3/10... Don't even know why I'm giving him 3, gutless too slow
react and well he and Kelliher will never be able to form
a good partnership together.(who would you drop)
10. Kelliher 8/10....... Worked off scraps but his tenacious bulldog spirit and
willingness to work for the team is what seperates him
from Can't Pass.
11. Donnellan 7/10... Had a good game all our good work was coiming down
the left. He and Kelliher saw out the win at the end by
holding the ball down in the corner.
12. McCarthy 8/10... What a difference a sub makes worked hard from the
the moment he came on and got his reward with a
sweet finish.
13. Kerins N/A.......... Not on long enough to rate him.
The conditions were very poor last night, and it was not a night for " Total Football" as it were, so it was difficult judge some of the guys performances
although I'm sure CP & Derek gave NOC some food for thought about who
wears No.9 shirt against Sligo this weekend.Everyone in the ground knows who it should be but only one guy can pick him.........

Good Crowd especially for the night that was in it ...between 4 and 500 id say
Just two quick annoying things about last night:
1: Consistently Poor O'Brien
2: The annoying little scum to the right of the goals. They nearly knocked an old man over and were in general bang out of order![]()
Also on a happier note didn't Derek just love it when he scoredYou'd think he was after scoring the winner in a cup final
The conditions made it difficult for football to be played last night. Limerick were just about deserving of the win. In the first half when the wind was strongly against us we actually played some good football on the ground instead of the usual tactics we have adopted in the first few games. It was a bit concerning in the second half the way we left Kilkenny into the game, there were too many lapses in concentration especially in our defence.
I thought Conor did well in the first half of the match, he was first to the ball and put it up to Wolfe, in the second half he faded out of the match and didn't help with the Kilkenny goal. But saying that the defence wasn't great anyway in the second half. It is interesting though that Timmy Lynch didn't start or for that matter Ahearne who has also played in central defence. Conlon did well, has a good eye for the pass and slotted in well into midfield. CP again did try last night but really is lacking in 'bottle' and hunger. He was too easily muscled off the ball when in possession compared to Derek, for example who for his goal made sure he got in front of the defender by muscling him out of it to volley in his goal. I thought everyone else was ok except for Robbie who didnt give up all night, he really is a fantastic player.
Overall it was great to get three points but they are going to have to improve their performance against Sligo.
Limerick 37, its so shiny and new we dare not take the cover off.
Officially it was 650.Originally Posted by clownboy
A great win when it was needed. Despite the bad weather it was worth the trip. I won't bother commenting on the striker situation. Our No.9 last night isn't worth it.McCarthy's the man though!!
