I agree Éanna. That's ridiciculas. I hate it when I hear people calling him a donkey. Behan's performances this season have been way above the likes of Dan "Captain" Murray's and yet I don't hear guys saying "Dan you fu*king donkey!"
I'm talking about the fellas in the Shed who keep roaring "You're a ****in donkey Behan" "Shoot him" "Take him off, he's ****" etc at Behan every time he sets foot on the pitch.Originally Posted by Fair_play_boy

Up in Longford, the guy on the loud speaker said Dan should be taken off. That was not on, especially as Dan probably heard it during the game.Originally Posted by thecorner

When the ball was played in the air, Dan played well, but once ye started playing on the deck, he looked so bad, after a while ye seemed to play everything down the middle, and looked dangerous every time, especially in the last 25 minutes. So he is not playing as well as he is able, and I have said in other threads that he has to be dropped. But it is appalling (sp?) for somebody in the middle of City supporters on a loudspeaker to call for him to be taken off while a game is in progress.Originally Posted by DE TOWN

drastic measures and all that but that is the only way rico will hear us from behind the goalOriginally Posted by Fair_play_boy

In fairness FPB, Eric didn't use the loudspeaker to give Dan abuse, it was no louder than those that gave Behan abuse or those (idiots) who kept on giving Murphy abuse long after it was clear the lad was seriously hurt on the ground.
Mick Devine clearly heard it, I reckon Dan heard the shouts too (not all from Eric) and while I agree it doesn't help the situation, it's hard to hold your tongue when he sliced the ball across his own penalty area into the path of an unmarked attacker.

what was he doing listening...he should be concentrating on the gameOriginally Posted by Fair_play_boy
I think the slice was up the other end in the second half. The call to take Dan off was in the first. I think we will have to agree to disagree on the rights and wrongs of undermining a player who is already having a terrible game.Originally Posted by tiktok

Like i've already said, Dan's form lately is really concerning me, but I don't think shouting "take him off" is going to help matters at all
It was exactly as you said, I was just pointing out that he had a poor game. For the record I didn't shout any abuse at any City player, I swore under my breath but I agree that getting on his back won't help. I'd sooner cheer what he did well and hope it helps his confidence.Originally Posted by Fair_play_boy

id say though that will be later rather than soonerOriginally Posted by tiktok
Dan has been poor, no doubt about that, but the criticism is getting a little ott.We have conceded 1 goal between friendlies, 3 league games and the Setanta game. It's not like we are losing goals or games because of his loss of form.
He does need a serious kick up the h*le, and maybe Hilly will be the one to sort him out. Until then, or until we actually have someone to take his place, he will be in the team, and we should try to praise him for what he does right, and not shatter his confidence even more by booing and calling for him to be re-placed.

While I dont think Dan has been playing that badly I do think thecorner has a very good point.Originally Posted by thecorner
Benno does appear to be carrying Dan at times, when Benno doesnt have a good game (rarely) then Dan doesnt have a good game. The opposite aint true, its usually when Dan has a poor game that Benno has to have a stormer
Oh no not them again
I realise it's only a matter of time that he costs us, but the point I'm making is that we have NOBODY else to take his place at the moment, and abusing him is only going to makie the situation worse for him.Originally Posted by thecorner

We shouldn't be getting on the backs of the players.
Maybe he's just a bit slow getting back to full fitness.

IMO it's purely a confidence thing, there were times in Longford when he was scared to commit for putting a foot wrong, and his distribution when he was under no pressure was poor. I think the captaincy weighs even heavier on him when he's playing badly too.
At the same time, on other occasions when he had to put his body in the way, make a hard tackle, he did it. His instincts are still there, he's taking up good positions (in fairness, how many teams have had good chances in the area this season while he's been on the field) but it's the confidence that's shot.
Which for me means, get behind him, it's not that he's actually a bad player, he's a good player who's going through a bad spell.
As has been said, we're now unbeaten in something like eighteen games in all competitions, with the joint meanest defence last season and only one goal conceeded this season (only Derry are better, having played a game less), so we know that he's basically solid.

You have a point. We should give the guy a bit of time to come right. I really hope that it comes together for him soon, though.Originally Posted by tiktok
