Not necessarily super quality, but actual midfielders, playing every week, at championship level at least. Hourihane, Browne, Williams are all there.

McClean and Christie make up 2 of the 3 Centre mid slots now 😂.

We need to keep the ball. At the moment it’s attack vs defence.

Now why would you go and put on one of the most creative midfielders we have?
You are not supposed to use your head when it comes to this Irish team

At least swap Hendrick and McLean and bring on just about anyone instead of Cyrus (nothing really against him as a pretty one dimensional full back he’s just a million miles away from being a midfielder)

I give up. Take off the actual midfielder. Sure why not, it’s not like we actually use the midfield anyway.

Shane Long looks knackered. But he's left on

To be fair Robinson has done well and Stephens grew into it as the half went on. Some improvements at least.

Agree. They are better than what started. But the days of blaming O'Neill and Keane are over. It's the players fault all day long

One or two players aside, this is one the most brainless group of players ever to represent Ireland. If you give the ball away the first ten times, and you can't get it back for five minutes each time, then why do you continue to do it?

    Better last 20.

Stevens & Robinson put in performances to challenge for a starting place on Tuesday.

Christie & McClean aren’t able to play CM. McClean shouldn’t be undroppable. If he doesn’t suit the system then bench him.

Certainly not a booking for diving . Sometimes it may not be a penalty but it may not also be a dive .

Was MON sticking two fingers up to all those clamouring for Doherty, by keeping Christie in the team (in a ludicrous position)? We had three central midfirlders that didn't get off the bench. One of them arguably being our best player in the last game. Baffling.

Hard to credit that shambles is from a management team in their 3rd campaign. It was almost as poor as the pathetic sky sport studio effort. Personally I don't like the 3 at the back, in our case it's an admission that we definitely don't do centre midfield as well as throwing players into a scrambled 'make it up if you can' game plan.
I do appreciate the effort and zeal of the players the overall impression is of an honest bunch of players who have no decent guidance about their duty within the shape and formation of the game plan they are supposed to be playing.

I quite like 3 at the back but generally agree with the rest of this. The composition of midfield was daft, and Stevens is a better wing back than McLean. Christie said he hasn't played midfield since he was 14. He did OK at times - two or three great deliveries - but overall there were probably 4 square pegs in round holes today. The players may not be great but at least pick players in roles that suit them. I'm just beyond fed up with O'Neill.

I've just got home. Truly awful. It's getting harder to justify the drive for this with every passing game.

Our central MF players need to be braver. When Jeff moved back he was constantly trying to get into position to get on the ball. I thought he made a difference there. His positioning without the ball might need working on but it’s worth looking at.

Our defenders will never be comfortable on the ball and step out with it so the onus is on MF to start our attacks. Otherwise it’s lump it down the channels.
