    New Manager for Pats

Disappointed to see Bucko going from Pats
Hopefully the next appointment won't be one of the LOI journeymen but someone to keep playing football.

    Collie O Neill ?
    although why would he ..

Strange time to announce that. Only a month until the end of the season, and still in with a shout for Europe.
Have you ever won the treble?

I'm not surprised after seeing his post match interview on Soccer Republic. He looked utterly frustrated and confused with the performance.

They'd have to win their last 4 matches and overturn a 33 goal deficit while Rovers lose their last 4 to qualify for Europe.
4th might make it but they are 10 points behind Waterford.....its not impossible but realistically they are done.
Gives them time to get a new manager lined up before the end of the season and start preparing for next year.
They have a decent underage structure , is there anyone there worth a leg up ?

Unless Waterford aren't given an exception.

Liam Buckley created some lovely teams at Pats over the years, always playing an attractive brand of football.

The last few years have been tough and his decision is not a surprise.

I'm surprised he lasted so long after almost getting Pats relegated last year. They've been on a steady decline over the last few seasons and things have obviously gone a bit stale at the club.

He seems like a very genuine man and his team played a nice style of football. He had some success, but at a high cost, Pats were paying out serious money for a few seasons, so it's no surprise to see them slide down the table now that Kelleher has tightened the purse strings. You can't play the same style with vastly inferior players.

It's probably the best move for both parties.

Fair point its possible they won't be given an exemption but apparently all the debts of the old company were paid (or so the story goes.....any Waterford supporters views on this) .
If that's the case they will probably get the exemption

It has been coming and things have gone stale on the pitch but it's still very sad to actually see him leave.

The league cup wins were nice and winning the league was obviously brilliant but the Cup win in 2014 was the highlight for me and many Pats fans, an emotional night for a lot of people and one we'll never forget. He leaves (again) as a club legend.
    Here on a technicality.

Keith Long would be a good move for Pats.

It's been coming, though I wonder if something happened that prompted the timing of it, seems strange considering the season is as good as over that he wouldn't see it out and have a proper send off that would make the remaining games worth something. A shame that Bohs game is the one he'll go out on.

Can't speak highly enough of Liam though, all he's brought to the club far outweighs the mediocrity of the last couple of seasons and he's provided myself - and I presume most Pats supporters - with some of my best memories in football. Some of the football it the league and cup winning seasons was the best the league had seen in a good while (aesthetically at least) but it was hard to keep that going when he didn't really have the means to do so. Hopefully like Brian Kerr he'll still be present in Richmond from time to time.

Who replaces him is an interesting one. I'm not sure there's a single realistic name that's been floated about that I wouldn't have my reservations over. I'd imagine Ger will take over for the remainder of the season, could be a trial run?

I would say his assistant Trevor Croly is a far more likely appointment although I believe he has a day job, so giving that up for full time football may not be an option. A very highly regarded coach, yet to really prove himself as a manager.

I'd say Pats with Keleher backing a new manager will have a bigger Budget,
Next couple of years as Bohs go on the road with no bar income etc might be difficult. (Take it from people who have had to travel)
He's overachieving at Bohs which will be hard to continue
He will probably get paid more at Pats
He lives on the Southside although where I don't know but it might be closer to Pats

With Pats & Buckley it may example in this new era of huge UEFA money that sliding for one season outside the Euro spots can be a serious struggle to claw your way back up the table without that minimum 200k+ of UEFA money in your budget

Now that's not to say Pats were not showing some signs of decline under Buckley before the UEFA money dried up but I can't see many managers now keeping their job for the following season if their club misses out on Europe with a huge hole in their budget, Derry keeping Kenny Shiels on for next season would be delaying an similar inevitable
The Leinster Senior League needs a strong Bohemians

isnt Keith Long an ex player of St Pats? surprised with Buckley not longer there. Liam Kelly is very prominent in management in the LSL surely he would be a great candidate?
Gary Cronin is he the right man to manage Longford Town?
