Tis a great aul league we have...
One who didn't know better might imagine that rowdy UCD fans had damaged it and are covering their tracks.

It was fine when we had it a few years ago.

A scurrilous accusation. Sure you saw John83 on facebook denying that very possibility!

Very fond memories of Ryano/rhino Ian Ryan here in Dundalk.
Got a raw deal along with John Gill after promotion in 2008.

Great football from Bohs first half and blood and thunder defending in the second.
Some quality goals , The two Kelly goals and Penders and then Keohanes glancing header were as good as you will see .
Dundalk are a class above that Cork team
Was watching on TV so I obviously didn't see any off the ball stuff but something tells me you might be exaggerating it a bit.

As for Sheppard, the ball barely made it into the box and he obviously thought he could nick it from Supple before he could pick it up. Mistimed. You're also conveniently forgetting "scumbag" Supple dragging Shep to the ground by the neck.

I see Brendan Clarke scored a penalty for Pats against Sligo last night

I remember Matt Gregg scoring for UCD against Cobh 10 years ago, have any other goalkeepers scored goals in the LOI before?
The Leinster Senior League needs a strong Bohemians

Limerick keeper scored with a long punt that bounced over Galway keeper Van Boxtel about 20 years ago on a cold night in Galway.
    Was it Eddie Hickey?

Billy Brennan missed a penalty in a League Cup quarter-final the same year Matt Gregg scored against Cobh. He'd already scored five for the 21s by that stage. I don't think any senior club (anywhere, possibly) has had two keepers score in the same season.

As a kid i remember a goal scored direct from a kick out in oriel park. It was league game in the late 70’s I think. Richie Blackmore (Dundalk) and Alex Ludzig (Prob Waterford) were the two keepers, I just can’t recall which one scored !!!!

Edit: It was Alex Ludzig who scored for Cork Alberts* v Richie Blackmore of Dundalk, late 70’s still the period.

*There was also a club called Cork Albert (no s) around this time, so it was def v whoever was in the league that season.

#DundalkFC - First Irish club to win an away game in Europe (1963), first Irish club to win points in a group stage in Europe (2016).

At the time I thought it looked a straight red for Sheppard, on replay it was a yellow, just shows how hard it is for refs at times to make a decision on the spot.

The complete absence of this kind of talk is a symbol of the marked decline of foot.ie over the past decade.

Quite a few others as well as those mentioned. I think Jody Byrne scored one for Monaghan about 20 years ago, and there was one at a UCD match in the past 10 years or so. Tom Lally was Galway's top scorer with 4 penalties their first season in the league

On this topic (and completely off-thread), I was at the U16 FAI cup final in 2009 (I had to look that part up), between Greenwood and Salthill Devon, and current Cork Hurler & Footballer Damien Cahalane, who was on goal for Greenwood, scored from his hands.

    Match report here. https://www.herald.ie/sport/soccer/j...-27912023.html

It's interesting to note that as well as Cahalane, Greenwood had current Irish international and Sheffield Utd. player John Egan, and the now former Cork City and Cobh Ramblers player Eoin McGreevey. Salthill had Daryl Horgan and Enda Curran in their side.

So we have a few penos and a couple of length of the field punts, but has a League of Ireland keeper ever scored coming up for a corner/free? I remember Barry Murphy putting a header narrowly over in a Rovers-Bohs match and I rememeber Tony O'Dowd coming up for a late Pats corner at Dundalk only for Brian Byrne to score on the break, but I can't remember an incident of a keeper scoring a header or goal mouth melee.

Our keeper Mick Kelly glanced a header a whisker wide in the last play of the game on Friday up in Drogheda. I was sure it was going in at the time. Can be watched on the highlights on Town's youtube channel. I don't know of one myself but I'm sure there has been one scored like this at some stage though.

Matt Gregg scored coming up for a free; that's the UCD one mentioned above.

Also, Conor Kearns scored a bicycle kick from a corner for UCD U19s away to Cork a couple of years back and got invited onto Soccer AM to recreate it. He's our first choice keeper now.

Excellent collection! I had thought Gregg's was a long punt. There's a video of Kearns' effort isn't there?
