    WYW v Cork (Cup)

Late flurry of goals put a very comfortable gloss on this win by Wexford in Ferrycarrig tonight who now progress to the semi-finals. In a rain-swept game, Tom Elmes began with Sophie, Becky, Lauren, Lolly, Nicola, Orla, Kylie, Aisling, McKenna, Emma and with Rianna up front. First half was largely controlled by WYW but without putting anything on the scoreboard and Cork didn’t really trouble Sophie Lenehan in the Wexford goal. After a couple of early Wexford corners, first real chance for the home side came on the quarter-hour mark when Rianna crossed to the far post but McKenna Davidson couldn’t get a decisive enough touch and it smacked off the underside of the Cork crossbar and away. Just after the 20 minute mark, Rianna and Amanda Budden in the Cork goal had a fifty-fifty tackle between them, but Budden was able to do enough. Rianna then had a turn and shot but Budden was able to push it away and Wexford's Kylie Murphy had a shot a yard wide. 0-0 at half-time with Wexford finding it hard enough to create decent openings past a Cork defence well-martialled by Savannah McCarthy.

Second half continued much in the same vein until 17 minutes in when Rianna Jarrett got the ball in to feet fairly close in. One roll of the Cork defender followed and the ball was dispatched by Rianna to put WYW a goal to the good. Wexford then brought on Katrina Parrock and Edel Kennedy but it was soon Cork’s best spell of the match as Saoirse Noonan crashed a drive off the Wexford crossbar and Sophie Lenehan in the Wexford goal had to push away another Cork effort on goal. Wexford needed an insurance second goal and got it somewhat controversially with nine minutes to go when Amanda Budden in the Cork goal pushed away a shot by Rianna Jarrett leaving Wexford’s Katrina Parrock to put away the rebound. Immediately the assistant’s flag went up for offside but the ref, after a quick word, over-ruled it and Wexford were two goals ahead. Wexford then produced the move of the game with great touches by Emma Hansberry and Rianna Jarrett to enable Edel Kennedy to finish well and it was 3-0. Right on the 90 minutes it was 4-0 when Rianna turned her marker on the end-line and her low cross was finished cleanly by Katrina Parrock for her second of the game. Game soon finished and 4-0 scoreline was a bit tough on Cork as they battled hard for the whole game. Late sub for Wexford was Doireann Fahey and the Wexford bench looks strong as they face the League Cup final against Peamount next week.
