Sorry you disagree but Martin O'Neill would be an excellent choice. I was quite tongue in cheek saying Packie. If not Martin O'Neill I would go for Aldridge. He was always able to get his Tranmere teams up for the Cup. Couldn't motivate them every week but got them up for the one off games. I think international management would suit him.

Thought it was interesting more than anything. Look for Keanes name near the bottom - not bad for 23-24 year old!!!
Thats very interesting. Keane is in the top 50 highest goals/game ratio in the world. Only 7 other U-24's on the list.

Know you have to be joking.
Is this the same Aldridge that got turned down by Bohs too ?
Aldridge was a long ball merchent and his teams lplayed horrible football.
He also got Tranmere relegated or did he jump just before that happened ?

^ he quit after our home defeat to Barnsley. We were 2-0 up, needed the points badly, but it went to 2-2 in the last few mins, he then took an executive decision to try and win the game, told players to get forward, but they hit us on the break and won 3-2. He quit after that and we went down mathmatically about a month later. To be fair to him he knew things were going astray before that, and offered to resign on many occasions (felt the squad needed massive changes) but each time our chairwoman (Lorraine Rodgers) persuaded him to stay. Money was a major factor, we looked like going out of business that year and wouldnt have been able to afford a new coach, so it would have just been Kevin Sheedy/Ray Mathais on their own. In the end the cup runs saved us financially (huge crowds for games vs Liverpool, Everton, Leeds (League Cup), Southampton etc in the 18 months before we went down) so if Aldo had kept us up but we hadnt had the cup runs we probably wouldnt exist as a club today. In terms of long ball, his hands were tied. Players like Komas could hit a decent pass, but the major factor was Wayne Allison. In terms of finances he was the only player we could afford, and after David Kelly retired he was the only experienced striker of any quality in the squad. Aldo had to play to Allison's strenghts, and so the long ball was often used.

I think he has decent potential as a national team manager. Aldo's weak point was his purchasing of players (almost all were on frees), Mickey Mellon for example was useless yet Aldo brought him. His strengths are motivating players, and knowledge of the opposition's weaknesses. His tactical awarness is ok but could probably do with more practice. I'd like to see him maybe have a role with the U-21s or as some sort of advisor with the youth teams... the FAI should bear in mind long term options and keep tabs on younger coaches, as 10 or so years down the line, who can say what the situation will be regarding national team manager ?

And now on a Celtic site the latest theory is that Kerr is a Rangers fan and that's why he won't play the teenager McGeady.

There is an arrogance about Celtic and Man U fans - once an Irish player plays for them it automatically follows in their eyes that they should play for the national team. I remember when Mick Mc was being lambasted by the Man U fans for not playing O'Shea same as is happening now with McGeady.

He'll play when Brian Kerr decides he's good and ready to play.

I think the fact that Kerr is a Rangers supporter has little to do with it but there is something very suspicious there. What is wrong in giving this chap a good run in an irish shirt then we can all comment on how good or bad he is but for now we will just have to speculate on this and continue to have the same old posts why, when will Kerr play Macgeady and the anti Celtic outbursts because of it.

OwlsFan - Kerr has admitted to being a Rangers fan afaik but thats neither here nor there. That chap on the Celtic board is a paranoid so and so and the replies to the post show that its not a widespread thing among Celtic fans.

Anyway, McGeady should have started yesterday. No conspirency theories, just foolish by Brian not to start him as he won't get a start for at least another 8 months now.

I'm closing this thread, because people don't seem able to debate the point and have to resort to name-calling instead.
