    Cobh Ramblers

Wexford put in another decent effort last night to get something out of the game but ultimately found the concession of two goals within a minute against Cobh too much of a hurdle to overcome. The new temporary triumvirate in charge of the Wexford team is certainly giving youth its chance and has got them playing some attractive football. Last night the team was Aaron Hall in goal, Mark, Ross, Owen, John, Danny, Sean, Conor, Dean George and with Adham Masood playing behind Dean Walsh up front. It rained for most of the game and Cobh had a real good chance right from the off but Ross Kenny did really well to prevent a clear Cobh one-on-one with the Wexford keeper. Other than that, it was very even between both sides until about ten minutes before half-time. On nine minutes, a good Wexford effort towards the top corner forced Mylod in the Cobh goal to take two touches to save. Two minutes later, Dean Walsh hit the post when Mylod pushed Walsh’s first effort on goal straight back to him. On 21 minutes, Masood also was close to getting a one-on-one against the Cobh keeper but for a last-ditch block, and immediately at the other end of the field, Hall picked up a yellow for impeding a Cobh attacker out near the corner-flag. Dean Walsh then hit a rasping shot wide after a good Wexford effort. On 35 minutes,Cobh went ahead when Wexford left too much space down their left, and the Cobh cross left an easy finish for Hurley and it was 1-0 to Cobh. From the kick-off, a heavy touch by Wexford gave the ball away and it was passed centrally to another Cobh attacker who smacked a low shot past Hall and it was suddenly 2-0. Wexford looked stunned for the remainder of the half and went in for the break two goals down which didn’t reflect the balance of the game.

With credit to Wexford, they came out like rabid dogs for the second half and applied all the pressure early on. Sean Kelly forced Mylod to push a decent volley away for a corner after a couple of minutes and then Dean Walsh rounded Mylod but went too wide to get a shot on target. Cobh then got a yellow for a bad tackle on Dean George which produced some handbags and a yellow apiece for players from both teams. Cobh then couldn’t clear a Wexford free-kick and the ball eventually found Masood in the crowded Cobh area whose left-foot volley found the way to the Cobh net for Adham’s first senior goal. Wexford’s game from then on didn’t have the accuracy of earlier periods of pressure by Wexford although Conor Sutton did have a good chance from a half-volley which he couldn’t keep on target. A rare Cobh attack then made Aaron Hall have to work very hard to deflect a long-range shot over his own bar. Late subs for Wexford were Paddy Cahill, Liam McCartan and Sean Smithers and Cobh ended up 2-1 winners. Impressed by Danny Doyle, Sean Kelly, Dean Walsh and Owen McCormick on the night for the home team. Maybe, 120 or so at the match.
