Credited with an assist tonight in QPR's 2-0 win over Luton: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/59257134. Playing regularly in the same league as Dara O'Shea and John Egan in a team that's vying for promotion, has a little bit of Premier League experience - While I don't think there should be wholesale experimentation with personnel in the March friendlies, I definitely think Dunne should be given the opportunity to stake his claim.
I don't see it. He got a chance to stake his claim at Burnley who were happy to let him go to bring in Nathan Collins, O'Shea is in the same division granted but when West Brom were up he played a lot more than Dunne ever did & at a younger age too. Omobamidele looks pure class. Egan proved himself a division up too.
Its great to see him & McGuinness developing and I hope it continues well for them but to say what he's doing definitely warrants an opportunity isn't accurate given the options, if all are available. If they aren't he comes into the conversation alright.
Have to agree with Crafty. It's great to see him progressing but we need to account for options already in place. I think similar points have been made in other threads about William Hondermack (before his recent call up) and Jamie Bowden for the 21s- why aren't these lads called up? Are they not committed? No, the answer is that we just have a lot of good midfielders at that level and we can only pick a certain number of players (Louie Watson and Ryan Johansson weren't in the last one).
There's definitely a queue there and I'm sure if there are a couple of injuries in March that Dunne will be considered and compared with other options and those unavailable accounted for. Plus he is a Dundalk lad so Kenny won't be overlooking him in a rush.
If there's changes in March should be Collins and Omobamidele getting more minutes and O'Shea should be back before then also. I like Dunne, Dyche rates him as someone that can be be a top top championship defender but wasn't gonna get the games needed at Burnley.
CB is a position we don't need to worry about for the next 10+ years with the lads currently in the senior team and the likes of Dunne and McGuinness who should at least make it as top championship defenders. A penny for Conor Masterson's thoughts about the situation.
Any word on how Masterson has been faring? I see he has 13 games and mostly starts with the odd game out here and there. 17 games played in the league so far. That's okay. Not sure how he's been playing.
My sense from forums and Twitter is that he was doing ok, scored a goal in FA cup which always helps. However, the defense got destroyed vs MK Dons with people questioning his strength and physicality (something we know he has to work on). He didn’t play in FA cup, but thankfully he has been restored to the line up today. Hopefully he can get a full season under his belt and keep improving the physical side of his game
Motoring well at QPR (feedback from https://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/footba...r-home--report)
QPR Star Man – Stefan Johansen 8 Several candidates here, with Jimmy Donne monstrous at the back, Lee Wallace making an enormous difference down the left, and Seny Dieng back in the sort of commanding form that made him a star last season, but Stef was right back to his best and only a great save by Nicholls prevented him crowning that with a goal. As said at the time, much of his perceived struggles earlier in the season were when being asked to write the theme tune and sing the theme tune while massively outnumbered in midfield, so Huddersfield dropping off second half....
The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist thinks it will change; the realist adjusts the sails.
Seems to be doing well and getting a good run of games in a team that's in quite good form. Must be getting close to a squad place? 5th in the table, 2 points ahead of 7th, 5 points behind second. I saw him once over Christmas and he looked very comfortable. Thoughts?
He's a centre half, so he has a big queue ahead of him. Someone should be looking at his games all the same.
You can't spell failure without FAI
We are stacked at center back with Egan, big Andy, Collins, Duffy and O’Shea; but Jimmy has been outstanding for qpr this season. If he keeps going then he will be close to a squad place. I’d have him next in line for a call up ahead of Williams, Lenihan etc on the basis of nurturing his potential.
On another note, masterson returns to qpr to join Jimmy. Cambridge did not renew his loan. Masterson started off well but overall a disappointing loan spell. Let’s see where he goes now, hopefully he can secure another league one loan for remainder of the season.
That was last season with Swindon?! No sign of a long term injury in any of the reports?! Cambridge felt he wasn’t good enough by the looks of it, and are now entering the market for a new defender. Not good for Conor
That's what I was thinking of, thanks.
You can't spell failure without FAI
the more the better and the merrier, call this fellow in and play him alongside lets say Egan, then Duffy and Lenihan as well, as i said before would love to see Dara Oshea in midfield and the guy at Norwich has excelled Ireland as a potential right back,
Interestingly, he was ahead of Nat Phillips at Liverpool. Phillips hung around as an u23 till 23 and ended up playing 20+ games last season due to injuries to van Dijk, Gomez and Matip. Now Phillips is being linked to the likes of Burnley, Newcastle and West Ham… meanwhile Masterson is struggling to play at L1…
The wrong move at the wrong time really sets a poster back a mile
I'm not sure he was ahead of philipps.. sure he got brought into a squad once or twice but he never played. Philip's is a year older and was sent on loan to Stuttgart in 19/20 the same year conor left. I would say Conor was behind him if anything otherwise he would have been given an extension.
Sad truth is it looks like Conor Masterson is not rated by anyone who spends 3 to 4 months with him so far..
this isnt a hard luck story of wrong move at wrong time. phillips was brought on pre seaon tours in 18+19, Masterson was released in summer of 19. Clearly wasnt ever on first team radar. He'd be better off with a move to Scotland or even LOI at this point to build himself back up.
have only ever heard about dunne never seen him play, linehan is flying too by all accounts. pretty decent options in reserve now for a back 3.

In fairness dunne was very shaky in his time at Sunderland after a good spell in Scotland. He never got much of a look in underage and seemed to never vremotely be close to been involved at senior level for man utd . He has done great inspirational. Remember he was courted by or courted maybe the North a few seasons back
Masterson was named on the bench at Liverpool a few times, but never made his debut for the Reds, so was on Klopp's radar
He was taken on a preseason training in Spain a few years ago as well: https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/spor...handa-12622885
