    Jimmy Dunne (D QPR b.1997)

Surprised that Dunne hadn't a thread of his own, considering he has a full season of senior football under his belt. Anyway, he made his debut for Scottish Premiership table-toppers Hearts in their victory over Kilmarnock and even had a shot on goal saved: http://www.heartsfc.co.uk/news/6926

While it looked for a little while that there was a chance he might break into the Burnley first-team squad, this is still a big step forward in his career. If he can consolidate his position over the next few weeks he surely moves him up a level in terms of the pecking order for National Team centre-backs, from a group of youngsters with potential (Masterson, Nolan, O'Connor, O'Driscoll, Collins) to our second-tier/fringe group (along with Egan, Keogh and Hoban... maybe Williams if we're using a back three). Top tier options would be Clark, Rice, Long and Duffy.

Hadn't been following the SPL too closely this season but with all the reports of Celtic being 6 points behind Hearts, I said it might be worth checking if Jimmy Dunne is playing a role for the table-toppers. His manager reckons he has a good game the weekend before last against Motherwell: https://www.footballparadise.com/lev...-points-clear/
And Hearts supporters on Twitter were very impressed with his contribution to a clean sheet against Livingston at the weekend.

Good to see he's made a decent start - Hearts have only conceded once in the four games he's played. Would be nice to have another young centre-back emerge to compensate for the potential loss of Declan Rice and he's got to be worth looking at sooner rather than later.

First goal for Hearts turns out to be the winner against St. Johnstone - https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/45610230 - time to start monitoring him closely, MON - there's a spot open in the squad this Autumn

I wouldn't read to much into that... premierleague.com lists Glen McAuley and Jonathan Afolabi as English

Another goal for Dunne, unfortunately it was only a consolation as Hearts had already shipped three against Rangers: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/45696333

Northern Ireland trying to poach him according to this, due to grandparents being from there, says they have offered to fast track him into their senior side.

Makes a bit of a mockery of NIMON's wailing on the subject a while back.

It's okay if Michael does it, seems to be the rule! Gentleman's agreement, my backside. There is no way a lad from Drogheda will join them. I hope this blows up and the sheer hypocrisy is seen for what it is.

Strange how they say he is "considering" it. You would have to be surprised if he did defect. He's well on course for senior honours with his country. Hopefully it's nothing a phone call from one of his Burnley colleagues or Martin O'Neill can't nip in the bud.

Why does the fact that he does not have a competitive cap mean the transfer can be pushed through quickly?

Also, left out of that article was that the 3-1 win over Iceland was an U21 international

Between Kevin Palmer on Rice, Dan McDonnell on Arter and now this, the Indo is really losing it's credibility. Those 3 stories are fairly unfounded and have negative undertones and implications, like much of the supporters' discussion on Irish football recently. It's as though the Indo is seeking to feed, or at least pander to, the views of some of it's audience.

He's from Dundalk (well Blackrock but not f'ing Drogheda!) but definitely no chance of him jumping ship, especially with him being involved in the U21s recently.

Apologies, born in Drogheda, a far nicer town than Dundalk!

this line from the article is absolutely ridiculous
he is free to link up with the North for this week's Nations League qualifiers against Austria and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Even if he was (which he isn't) he was named on the bench in Israel yesterday for the U21 qualifier, and will be flying to Germany for the final game in the group with the rest of the squad.

Excellent news, he appears to have started very well. This is an interesting quote from Levein:

"He is a good passer of the ball and is good in the air and has decent pace. He is a calm boy, he is low maintenance and is not difficult to deal with at all."
Hmmm... I haven't seen the recent Ireland games here in Canada but that kind of sounds like things I've been reading about another young centre-back we had in the first team for a few months before he decided he needed time. It's just a pity Dunne didn't break through before the Spring friendlies. Is it too late to play him against The North? Or should we just wait a few more months before even thinking about blooding him. It's really starting to look like he'll be the next player for MON to look at in terms of expanding the squad but there's no real window on the horizon where we can get him settled in, unless he plays so well that MON could feel confident giving him a debut in the qualifiers, perhaps against a lower-ranked team
