    WYW v Limerick

Another comfortable and competent display by WYW against Limerick in Ferrycarrig this evening as two goals in either half gave the home team a further three points against a hard-working Limerick side. Wexford started with Sophie, Becky, Lauren, Lolly, Doireann, Katrina, Kylie, Orla, Emma, Aisling, and with Rianna up front. Wexford immediately gained the upper hand with their first attack of the game, when on four minutes, a through ball found Rianna Jarrett in space and she finished easily past Karen Connolly in the Limerick goal for 1-0 to Wexford. Rianna nearly doubled her personal goal tally in the game a couple of minutes later but was unable to do so. An early yellow card came Becky Cassin’s way on nine minutes for a tackle. Doireann Fahey then shot wide after 16 minutes after a good Wexford move. On 25 minutes, Katrina Parrock was through on the Limerick goal at an angle, but Connolly was able to save the effort with her legs. Wexford interspersed good passages of play with some poor ones, but Limerick rarely looked a threat to Sophie Lenehan’s goal. On 39 minutes, a good cross by Rianna Jarrett was sliced into her own net by a Limerick defender and Wexford were two goals ahead at half-time.

Second half started with McKenna Davidson coming on in place of Wexford’s Aisling Frawley who had got her ankle strapped in the first half. The second half was more or less a mirror-image of the first with Wexford in control and mixing up some good moves with some poor losses of possession but with Limerick being unable to capitalise. After a yellow card for Lauren Dwyer for a high foot, it became 3-0 to Wexford when McKenna Davidson, who seems to have really good passing ability, found Rianna Jarrett free inside the Limerick area and she finished easily past Connolly. Rianna was then immediately replaced by Aoife Slattery with Ciara Delaney coming on later for Wexford. With a couple of minutes to go in the game, Katrina Parrock made sure she got her head on the end of an Emma Hansberry corner and it was 4-0 to Wexford. So, comfortable for Wexford with Megan Kelleher and Sophie Liston looking best for the Shannonsiders. Well done also to Karen Connolly who played in goal for Limerick in the two games in Ferrycarrig today as earlier, Limerick WU17 had defeated Wexford WU17 by four goals to two with the insurance goal for Limerick coming with the last kick of the game after a cracker of a match. The Wexford scorers in the U17 game were Sarah Siggins and Blessing Kingsley.
