    WYW v Kilkenny

WYW continued their very fine league form with a comfortable win over Kilkenny in the Watershed this evening, although it took the away side time to registertheir superiority on the scoreboard. WYW began with Ciamh, Nicola, Lauren, Lolly, Doireann, Aisling, Kylie,Aoife, Orla, Katrina and with Rianna up front. Playing with the breeze on a slick surface which has improved greatly since last year, Wexford dominated the game in the first half yet didn’t copewith the elements well as too many offsides and overhit long passes litteredtheir play. Kylie Murphy struck a half-volley just past the KK post from an Aisling Frawley corner in the first couple of minutes and then Rianna Jarrett hit a 35 yard shot over the KK bar. However, Wexford never really asked Coombes in the KK goal to deal with anything thereafter until the 35 minute mark, when Kylie Murphy curled a free from an angle just inside the far post for 1-0 to the away side. Rianna Jarrett then struck at the far post for 2-0 and, just before the break, Katrina Parrock met a corner at the near post with a header to put Wexford 3-0 in front at half-time. However, you couldn’t say that Wexford had played well in that half although Ciamh Dollard had had to cope with virtuallynothing in the Wexford goal.

Although Wexford scored the same number of goals in the second period, their play was slicker as the ball held up more against the breeze and the wings were used to greater effect, leading to goals of better quality. KK got their first decent shot on target with nine minutes gone in the second half, but Ciamh Dollard in the WYW goal held on well showing good handling skills. On ten minutes, Becky Cassin replaced Lolly Conlon with the former moving to right-full. It was soon 4-0 when Rianna turned provider as her low cross from the right was turned in by Katrina Parrock. Becky Conroy came on for Kylie on 18 minutes. It was five goals to the good for WYW when Rianna turned her marker and blasted a shot past Coombes for 5-0. McKenna Davidson then replaced Lauren Dwyer and McKenna soon put a neat through-ball for Rianna to complete her hat-trick and 6-0. 6-0 at full-time with Wexford now heading to Belfast for the UEFAs and their first match against Ajax Women on Tuesday, 7 August.
