2 great games in the 2nd round
Rathkeale vs Abbey and Ncw town vs Broadford
Previous topic someone spoke about, what is going to be happening with the Hogan and Riedy cups this year??? i imagine the league are thinking premier and div.1 for riedy and div.1 and 2 for hogan cup
Glantine beat Glin B 4-1 this evening under lights.
Any reports from yesterday's games? Abbey and Rathkeale leading the way already. Ncw town drawing away to ballingarry tells me they won't keep pace with the other two. I didn't see much from their starting line up last week than it just looks like a strong rovers team tbh bar one or two who would have played with afc down the years and underage. How come ray lynch went to abbeyfeale?
The other amalgamation between killeaney and bally rovers seems like it was also just a sustaining job for a team to be kept going. They've started badly.
I would not write off Newcastle just yet..it's only game 2..seen some of ratkeale game yesterday, v strong and totally dominated all 2nd half against a poor glin side..some good goals scored..
Lynch was with regional last season so I suppose he was not tied to brdf, he could do well with Abbey as they normally play good football.. there is gaa on the coming wknd so will be interesting how that affects some clubs..
I see the league have granted NCW and Carrig free weekend because of the GAA. I was under the impresssion from what I’ve heard that the league are against free weekends for GAA purposes
I wouldn't say it was for Gah, unless you can corroborate that with confirmation from Carrig or Newcastle.
With NCW playing Kieran’s on Sunday I would be confident on that
Maybe they requested a free weekend 2 weeks ago? Would the fixture for that GA game be fixed 2 weeks ago which would have allowed one of the teams to book a free weekend? A club can request a free weekend for what ever reason they want as long as they give notice as far as I know?
I see the league has decided to skip the 3rd round of fixtures as per master list that was on weekly observer. Why is this? Is it something to do with teams playing football on Sunday? Abbey we’re suppose to play Glin but now playing Kildimo. Rathkeale were suppose to be playing Broadford but now playing Ballingarry?
I wouldn’t be surprised if Abbey and Kildimo game now gets changed from the Sunday as Kildimo would be willing to change for Abbey more so than Glin as they’re big rivals.
Could be a good reason for it but just seems strange they would skip the 3rd round of fixtures.

Been told that NCW requested this weekend off over a month ago. I believe it's for a stag/wedding or something like that... In my opinion if NCW know they'd be playing Carrig they'd have played it regardless thinking GAA would effect Carrig far more...
Second guessing the fixtures g'luck with that
Your status as a club has a lot of bearing in my experience
Supposed to be tightening up on the requests this season - edict went out after AGM that club cannot request a weekend for the same lads stag & wedding - how you police it, anyone's guess
Saw a list of some GAA fixtures there earlier - there's a lot of playing left in those championships!!!!
That's the killer with the requests, you have to request a free weekend 3 weeks out but you've no idea if you'll have a game until 5-6 days out.
Fair enough at the beginning of the season it's reasonable to expect a share of games but you could request a free weekend in January and not end up needing it at all.
Look for one again then in April when you really need it and you won't get it cause you've already used up your free week.
Not sure how you fix it
Well to go back to sportsfanatic's point - if you tried in the main to stick to the master list it would help, Help clubs in planning the season, help players in expectation of when there might be a break to do something - I understand in practice you'll have weather call off's - some pitches playable while others aren't - prob not one answer to it
More games under lights would defo help - a wedding on a Saturday could be circumvented by playing Friday night - interesting to see how Glantine get on this year with the lights
Someone a few weeks back made the point about the slow start as well - 2 games in the league played and in the city with midweek evenings utilized you've 7/8 played
Getting a few played early in the better weather would definitely give scope for more flexibility
