    Sorry what!?
So basically what you're saying is ANY club at any time can do whatever the f*ck they like, as long as everyone agrees to say nothing afterwards

Just remember, this could've been solved long ago if the league had agreed to have two linesmen on Abbeyfeale's games. A very simple solution.

    Just let that sink in.

I pity the refs of the Kerry league where the Facebook warrior is an assessor. I cannot believe some of the stuff he has posted. He has actually made matters worse in some regards and the Desmond league refs are embarrassed by him and want to distance themselves from him entirely. He should be reported to the fai because regardless of anything else that is not the proper conduct of a referees assesor. Could you imagine pat Kelly from cork carrying on like that.

And that was meeting the situation more than half way considering the seriousness of the situation. But the league is finished for a bit , the league that was voted in by the clubs have lacked the leadership that was needed to bring the Desmond league forward. Unfortunately people in those position need heart and desire but most of all have a positive vision and pathway to lead the next generation of young kids into a football with a heathy future.

If this matter ever finish’s is it time to review referees criteria generally . Should there be an age limit ? How can someone over 60 years of age ref a match ? Should refs be soccer only ? How can refs do a soccer match after reffing a schools hurling match earlier that day or the previous evening ? Is there a certain fitness test should be done annually ?
This obviously would need all clubs making more of an effort to recruit younger referees , the money is attractive if a club could identify suitable members or if not that club should have higher ref fees .

Some very valid points there abbeyman. A referee should be coming down in status with age coming from senior men to ladies to youths to underage to being an assessor if the eyesight is still holding up. Age plays an important part to all of us but running around after 21 year olds the day after blowing out your 70th birthday cake candels is madness.
Recruitment is the only way and clubs need to approache people who might be suited.no doubt we will all be slated by your man ( the GOD of referees).. if he doesn't like this forum don't be on it.. he has all our names too as his cousin is james bond

some valid point alrite but will not solve the immediate problem..for the good of league and all hard work done by players management and committees including Desmond league committee can the refs please return to see out season..I think the safest place a ref could be going now is abbeyfeale. accept the league member at game, referee asser and a member of there committee safeguarding the ref for all his time at grounds..to me this is a fair compromise and again can I add that no referee ever should be treated badly but it's time to move on for everyone else..

If a ref. is fit and hasgood eyesight age should not be a barier, actually we had a ref. here in the Mayo league, he must have being up on 80 when he retired fro reffing, he could run and ref. a lot better than some ref. 1/2 his age.
Refs. has to do assessment course every year and part of the course would be a fitness course, allthough i was told by a ref. here that one of our refs. had failed the FT but was allowed to continue reffing.

If you were to write a list of issues about the League at this moment, this would be a footnote at the bottom.
If a ref is able to pass a fitness test and is up to the mark it shouldn't matter what age he is. Pretty sure it would be grounds for discrimination too.

I know you might need young fresh refs, but would you put your son or daughter into that pressure enviroment getting abused by middle age footballers. Agreed refs need to look at the bigger pitcure now and get league finished or else they will no longer need there society. The league will fold and we will have half the teams in KERRY and half in the CITY.

On another note if they came back next week , is there enough time to get league and cups done?

It’s way too late imo. Several rounds of league games left. Not to mention cups. We are in June now. I just can’t see it working out

The younger refs can't get a fair shot at it cause the older 1s have it all taken.

Can they expect teams who are mid table and have nothing to play for to try field teams this weekend coming. Keeping in mind the hurlers are out Sunday too.

In the event that the league gets underway there's at least 48 games left to play, excluding the Second Division as I'm not sure how many are left with teams pulling out and such.

    Premier Division - 22 games.
    First Division - 10 games.
    Second Division - ?
    Desmond Cup - 3 games
Premier Division League Cup - 4 games.
Second Division League Cup - 9 games.
