For the record, just because I quote Jim Smith in a response doesn't mean that everything in that post is addressed to him. It has to be said that users on web forums can be incredibly insensitive to the people they talk about, and their families and friends. This seems particularly true on web forums. Take the past few days on Foot.ie alone: We've had completely unsubstantiated rumours about a football player taking drugs, another player named - apparently incorrectly - as being responsible, and two threads in which (imho) utterly disrespectful comments were made. It's just... not nice. If people would just think for a second before they posted...

    Angry Terry Schaivo

An eminent doctor was on one of the US channels last night - his area of expertise was people with terminal disease etc. He stated that Terry Scaivo would not feel pain or anything at all because the nerve connections signals to her brain would not be received by the brain because the brain areas in vegatative state were simply not there/working/operaple/responsive to receive pain signals and make the poor woman aware that she was in pain.
Another excellent point he made was that the movements of her head, eyes were motor movements had nothing to do with a vegetative state -they were automatic as it were, minus any brain organisation involved. Therefore, people could easily think that she was aware of their presence, responding to their words etc.
Re my point regarding that disgusting pond life called Tom Delay. I can't handle this slug's hypocracy without feeling nauseous. Remember his outbursts re poor Terry - I've just discovered that he pulled the plug ON HIS OWN FATHER in the recent past and used lawyers to ensure that his dad died without any Scaivo like problems.
    What an absolute utter W . N . K . . R

I think this sums the situation quite well. I don't think I agree with this at all.

Public opinion in the US supported the courts, 75% of people opposed the interference of the politicians and Bush.

The woman had no quality of life, had no awareness of her surroundings, had to be fed with a tube, little or no brain activity although would have to say basically starving someone to death seems to be cruel.

In a few weeks most people won't remember her name & protestors will have a new cause.

    Unhappy Schaivo

Actually no, Ken Foree, I came across it on various websites and it was also mentioned on a US TV Channel. However, I am embarrassed to admit, that in reading through all the messages before I jumped in, you did post a vastly better account. Sorry about that.
Talking about two-faced politicians. I vividly recall an editorial in the Vincent Browne era of the Sunday Turbine (when it was a decent 'paper) concerning the, then, abortion debate. He was railing against the Irish libel laws. He stated that he could not mention the name of an eminent, married, "traditional", Irish Politician who made many an anti-abortion statement in the Dail. This b****cks had a mistress at the time whom he had TWICE sent to England to have abortions.
I am at an age where I have not totally given in to being an utter cynic but, Jesus, when I think of Blair, Bush, Delay and Mr. X T.D., above, it's fcuking hard, man.
    Cheers.
