    WYW v Galway WFC

WYW continued their good form with a comfortable win over visitors Galway in Ferrycarrig Park this afternoon. The surface at Ferrycarrig is now looking very parched indeed, but in spite of this WYW played some decent football with Emma Hansberry to the fore in midfield. WYW started with Sophie, Nicola, Lauren, Lolly, Becky, Claire, E mma, Kylie, Edel, Aisling and with Rianna up front. Only one team really threatened to score during the first half, but Shauna Fox and Maebh De Burca make a strong pairing at the back for Galway and this made it difficult for WYW to blast away on the scoresheet. Early chances fell to Aisling Frawley on two minutes who hit the side netting and Edel Kennedy who had her effort blocked by a Galway defender. Nicola Sinnott then had her effort saved by Tina Hughes in the Galway goal. However, Wexford went ahead on 18 minutes when a ball fell what looked like fortuitously to Rianna Jarrett and her first-time lob gave Hughes no chance for 1-0. It was 2-0 on 25 minutes when Claire O’Riordan flicked a near post header past Hughes in the Galway goal. Rianna then smacked the cross-bar with a free and Emma Hansberry created some further chances with set-pieces. 2-0 to WYW at half-time with Galway not having threatened Sophie Lenehan’s goal.

Second half was again dominated by Wexford although Galway came more into the game and forced a couple of saves. It became 3-0 on 53 minutes when Rianna Jarrett stooped to plant a header past Hughes after really good work by Claire O’Riordan down Wexford’s left. Becky Conroy and Doireann Fahey came on as subs after the third goal with both again doing well down Wexford’s left. First real save by Sophie Lenehan came on 75 minutes when Galway worked space down their left, but there was little angle to play with and Sophie Lenehan was able to gather comfortably. Lucia Lobato impressed for Galway at this stage with some foraging runs. Further sub for Wexford was Aoife Slattery and game soon finished for Wexford on 3-0 scoreline. It was confirmed after the game that this was Claire O’Riordan’s final game before moving to Germany and again very best wishes to her.
