Did Hoare get a touch on the second goal?? As he was sauntering back to his man...

And they're general level of performance was consistently superior to what we usually see from LOI teams.
We've both won 4 ties since 2015. The format greatly helps Champions and they made the most of that in 2016. It was a great European run. We've gotten a slice of luck in our Champions League run so far despite not winning any ties. Maybe we will manage to make the group stages too. Probably not but its possible.
European progress is equal parts luck of the draw and footballing ability. You need both to go your way to make the group stages.

If Cork City beat Rosenborg and then through some quirk of the draw play Crusaders in the playoff round will you say its a great Cork City team because they will have reached the group stages? Of course not.

As for your comment regarding Larnaca, clearly you didn't watch last years games. Larnaca are a very good side, they limited our chances and we still should have had a penalty in both legs. They beat us 2-0 on aggregate. Very professional. Maybe if we had tested them more they would have stepped it up a gear. Maybe not, we will never know.
I did. I watched both games. The difference generally when dundalk or cork play in Europe is cork would be described as brave or gave it their all or came up short to a very good technical side. Basically its unflattering and not very complementary, showing a fair inferiority. When dundalk play the superlatives used are more like youd expect of a decent european pedigree team -this evening aside.

Those games last year Cork huffed and puffed at home never looked like scoring and lost 0 1, commendable but like a blunt hammer it'll never get the job done. This larnaca team are better than last year and what ive read have added more spanish la liga experience. Still doesnt take away from a shabby and shoddy dundalk performance from nearly all 11 and goals conceded because of 2 or 3 players individual mistakes.

Dundalk have looked lethargic from the off, their basic 5 yard passes have looked off. It cant just be heat can it?

I'm gutted we now won't get to see the total football originators Ajax against their natural successors. I blame the weather. Goddam you summertime, with your hot weather, and stuff...

Im out, but id be interested to see a cork v dundalk table grouped by results, club cp-effs, country co-effs, then we'll see the validity of your point. Dundalk have broken and gone well beyond the breach, cork have bounced off it, getting stung in the process.

End result is both teams get knocked out. Doesn't matter what they looked like when the result is the same really does it? As for what people say about it, well theres a reason we have a chip on our shoulders.
Now will you be here next week or are you back off to the rest of the forum for another year now that your darlings are out of Europe?

Two great chances there in the last few minutes. There's the difference. If they had both gone in, which they should have, suddenly its game on.
Out for a spell, got neglected, lay on the bench unselected.

I'm not saying Dundalk haven't achieved more in Europe, they definitely have. But there is this idea that they are infallible. Take 2016 out of it and they haven't done much.
As for country coefficients etc. The last tie Dundalk won was against BATE. Belarus is currently 21st, Sweden is 22nd. In 2016 Belarus was 20th, Sweden was 21st.

EDIT: The last tie they won was Levadia. I mentally skipped over it as City beat the same side.

EL P has it there apart from 2016 they've not done a lot.
By next year who will even remember 2016.
You could say the same for rovers since 2011 as well but even if they were o e offs they were great days

Jarvis was almost in the 6yard box there and still couldn't make up his mind to shoot.

McEleney has looked dangerous since he's come on, about the only bright spot they've had in this game really. Shame for Dundalk he wasn't a bit sharper that he could play the full 90 (not that it would have altered the outcome much).

Couldn’t defend in the 1st half. Can’t finish in the 2nd half. When it’s not your night....

Yep. Hobans header was a sitter really, and then a terrible touch from Duffy in the box when if he'd controlled it he surely must have scored. That and the silly goals they gave away are the margins that separate the men from the boys at this level.

You could just see they’d score a 4th.
