Awful ball watching all around there. After the header, Cleary or whoever it was just ball watching when rogers makes the save. Rogers should have done better.

This is as bad as anything ye'll have seen in Europe.

What about the draws along the way as well. There was no chance Cork would beat a side like BATE nevermind by 3 goals. Dundalk drew with Alkmaar and Maccabi and drew with Larnaca at home last week, again something COrk couldnt do.

3 chances, 3 goals. All goals were awful from Dundalk point of view. Hoare twice and then Rogers, just shocking. Even at 2 they still maybe had a chance, third kills it.
Out for a spell, got neglected, lay on the bench unselected.

You're not really comparing like with like though are you. Dundalk usually topped the league recently so played CL most years.
Dundalk have done much better in Europe than any other LOI side in recent years. They came close to getting out of the EL group!! I'd consider that much better than what anyone else did.
I'm hoping we'll see something like that again soon from a LOI side but I seriously doubt it.

Thats a myth. Dundalk have had great success in Europe but they didn't actually win all that many games.
Since their return to Europe in 2014 tonight is their 24th game.
They have won 7 of those. In 2016 when they made the group stages they won a total of 2 games. One vs BATE (an incredibly impressive performance) and one vs Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Their other wins are the two this year vs Levadia, two in 2014 against Jeunnese Esch and one in 2014 vs Hadjuk Split.

Cork City have played in 14 games since our return a year later in 2015. We've won 4 of those so far. Not quite as many as Dundalk granted but not a terrible return comparatively. IN percentage terms its pretty close actually (CCFC 28.57%, Dundalk 29.17%).
If we use the same time period, 2015 vs 2015 we have in fact won the exact same number of games.

But Europe isn't about games its about ties. Dundalk have won a total of 4 ties. Esch, FH, BATE (again very impressive, possibly the most impressive result in recent history) and Levadia.
Cork City have won three. Linfield, Hacken and Levadia. If we compare from 2015 then both teams have won the same number of ties.

Dundalk are a very good team. They have probably been the standard bearers in Europe in recent years with so many impressive performances, especially in 2016 against BATE and in the group stage. They made history in 2016 and we should commend them for that.

They haven't been all that good since 2016 though have they? They gave a good account of themselves against Rosenborg but then went out. They beat Levadia by half the score Cork City did a year previous and currently are 3-0 down in Larnaca.

Jesus lads, another f*cking Dundalk/Cork argument. Cop on.

This is a woeful Dundalk performance. There can be no excuses made, it's just brutal.

Ok lets look at the draws too. In 2016 Dundalk picked up what would effectively be 10 points in match results. They won two games and drew four. Cork City picked up 8 points. Two wins, two draws two losess. Granted we played a lesser standard of opposition but Dundalks success was as much down to the format rather than results. If Cork City beat Rosenborg and then through some quirk of the draw play Crusaders in the playoff round will you say its a great Cork City team because they will have reached the group stages? Of course not.

As for your comment regarding Larnaca, clearly you didn't watch last years games. Larnaca are a very good side, they limited our chances and we still should have had a penalty in both legs. They beat us 2-0 on aggregate. Very professional. Maybe if we had tested them more they would have stepped it up a gear. Maybe not, we will never know.

They may not have won all that many but they've managed to get further in Europe than anyone else didn't they? Whether it be on away goals or whatever they did enough to get through.
And they're general level of performance was consistently superior to what we usually see from LOI teams.

Well this is the Loi in Europe thread and Dundalk & City are the only 2 teams left.

It's a pity Dundalk fell away. But I'm disappointed in them tactically. They learned nothing from the first game.

They didn't look like much against Celtic but I think Celtic are better than people are giving them credit for , tough tough tie

Dinamo Minsk 4-1 up on aggregate against Dunajska Streda from Slovakia. How Derry nearly knocked them out, I don't know

God help us all on this forum if Cork beat Rosenborg. It will just add more fuel to the fire that is the Dundalk vs Cork ****ing contest.

Agreed on all points. Worst I've seen from Dundalk in Europe under Kenny by a mile.
They did so much good for the rep of Irish football in Europe over the last few years but now they're in danger of undoing a lot of that this evening if they can't make a better fist of the second half.

They are very good under Rogers and should not only make the group stages but depending on the draw, would fancy their chances of progressing to the last 16.

The good part is that I now don't have to watch the second half (and hear Damian Lynch say his favourite word 'dere' in every sentence).
