    Talking Jamie Oliver school dinners

    Good evening!

Just watching jamie oliver and his campaign to improve school meals in england, they eat some crap there. I think it is great what he is doing in difficult circumstances, each child's meal has a budget of 37p!! It is essential that something is done, children are so fat and unhealthy nowadays, it is shocking when you see 12,13 year olds who are fatter than yourself. Parents are to blame also, giving them crap when they come home for dinner too. As much as i dislike Jamie Oliver (he is such a ned), he has no people skills, has dodgy attitude, i credit him with trying this. i love nora, the dinner lady, she sounds irish, good laugh, and she can put him in his place!!!

What do u all think about children's diets, this programme etc?

Having watched some of it, about meeting the council etc. and trying to get funds signed off, it was commented "Could you imagine any council here or FF actually caring to that extent, those kids are years from voting" .... and then a comparison was drawn where a head master in a local school a while back was practically intimidating young kids into buying 'school milk' because he was getting x amount for each one sold, apparantly had been going on all over the place, schools up and down the country.

This was the Irish board of educations effort to improve kids diet, a scam for head master (or whoever it was in the school) to clean up on. Unreal when you think of it, they no more gave a toss about what kids eat.
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

I watched the prog. and was shocked at what the children eat it was terrible. Some of it could no way be passed of for food.
That piece of pork he gave the Education minister was disgusting looking.

Jamie showing the kids how chicken nuggets are made was funny as their faces turned green when they seen this. I think more people should be made aware of what they are eating everyday.

Batter burgers are fairly normal I would have thought, usually manky though!

Jamie Oliver comes across as a total pratt in anything I've seen him in.

I think ideally that all kids in every school should get a good healthy lunch, you'd be surprised at how many kids families are so badly off that the kids don't get proper ( or enough ) food. I know that this would seem like a fairly socialist move but I would put the health of all children first.

I think that the work of Jamie Oliver may finally provoke a full and frank debate on the issue. I was in the House of Commons yesterday, and he was mentioned a number of times, and the Leader of the House was asked to try and get Ruth Kelly(new Edu. Sec.) to make a statement on it.

Finally, something is being done about the substandard food served up to both young kids, but also to teenagers.

Yes, but this is in England / UK. There's no such system here which mean the worst off kids in our society are not guaranteed a decent meal in the day......

Yes, it is most certainly true that we do not have the same school dinners system here, but judging on the crowds of kids clogging up hot food counters at local supermarkets every lunchtime, pumping out coloured sh*t, id say the problem exists.

Most serious however, was the situation that kids who had behaviour disorders calmed down and became more easy to handle after ONE WEEK on proper grub. If that is replicated accross the whole generation, well, something must be done, fast.

    Its the food stupid!

very true, going to school in Down and Fermanagh, i usually had packed lunch, but i tried the school dinners sometimes, totally different from what is on tv, i think over here, there is more cooked proper food not the dog food which is served on the tv school
