    Malta

Thinking of going here for a week in the end of May with the girlfriend. Anyone know anything about it? Weather? Cost of food and drink?

    THANKS

hi there, well from working in a travel agency previously, i can tell you it is an old persons destination, a bit like madeira. However as a couple, it will be fine. Nice food, weather will be great at that time., not the hottest , just perfect. quiet destination, would never send a group of young lads or young people there expecting mad clubbing and drinking, not that sort of place. plenty of nice bars, restaurants, i think it would be nice for a couple , i would go definitely with my boyfriend. however, if u are a lively couple wanting clubbing scene etc don't go, but if u want, peaceful, romantic, time to yourselves, without screaming brats everywhere, it should be perfect. it is beautiful, english of course spoken widely. never been unfortunately, just from what i have learned etc,..

I think kerr's tribe has given a fairly accurate picture of Malta but maybe not as quiet as made out. I'm not a fan of package holidays but loved Malta, then again I'm probably considered one of the old people kerr's tribe mentioned. Valetta and its harbour is absolutely magnificent, sound people living there. Pubs were lively enough when I was there but that was during Euro 2000 so maybe quieter normally.

except st. julians, and i presume by "old person" you mean 25+.

    true

quiet destination, would never send a group of young lads or young people there expecting mad clubbing and drinking, not that sort of place.
again, saint julians is the only mad place on the island, maybe bugibba too. then again the island is tiny, so its good everyone is centralised.

plenty of nice bars, restaurants, i think it would be nice for a couple , u want, peaceful, romantic, time to yourselves, without screaming brats everywhere, it should be perfect.
im supposed to have my honeymoon there

i have been there and its an excellent, vaired destination for such a tiny island.

hi good son, sorry i don't mean to make out it is costa del ol' fogies, it is just u don't get lots of mad young drunken louts, which is great, it is very traditional, has not been anglicized like the costa in spain. u will i am sure get plenty in their 30's and mostly 40's 50's, end of may still quiet season, but will be medium pace , IMO, i would go and i am 26. Prices for food and drink should be reasonable if u search out the local places away from touristy places, avoid british/irish bars, tend to be more expensive(lopez loves to talk about this! ) go off the beaten track, go inland etc. enjoy!

yeah, anyone who has been there, ie gavin can comment truly on their experience, i have not been unfort. so i can only comment to a certain extent
nice one gavin, i think it would be ideal for a honeymoon, as i said there should not be many screaming brats, last thing u want on your honeymoon, just reminds you of the consequences of your actions on honeymoon 9 months and all that
