Cork City were sensationally dumped out of the eircom League Cup at Turner's Cross today.

The game's only goal came after 87 minutes. Ciarán Foley fould Derek McCarthy, he got the better of Stephen Napier, and drilled the ball beyond Michael Devine - his third goal in a week.

Cork's cause had not been aided by the dismissal of Alan Bennett after 75 minutes, the young midfielder picking up his second yellow for dissent.

The victory was about as much as Limerick, who were the better side in the first half, deserved, despite the huge difference between these two sides according to the League tables.

Foley missed a great chance to put the Blues on 25 minutes but he shot weakly at Devine after being let down by his first touch, while Declan Daly did well to block Foley's goalbound effort later in the opening half.

Some sections of the Shed chanted for Liam Murphy to be sacked afterwards and Cork's only chance of winning a major trophy this season has now evaporated.

It was rumoured strongly this evening that Murphy resigned as manager after the game but these have not been confirmed as yet.

I would say MOST sections of the Shed chanted for Liam Murphy to be sacked...

The funny thing is that most of the players didn't play too badly today. I thought Morley, O'Flynn and Mulconroy were the pick of them. And O'Rourke, Bennett and Mulligan did ok too. It's just that with an idiot like Murphy in charge, they will never have any guidance or instruction. No matter how good the player (and we have some of the best players in a while there now) we won't win anything without a plan.

Leave now Murphy, please.

So it was the booing fans who made the team lose today was it Liam?

So it was the booing fans made the team play crap today was it Liam?

So it was the booing fans who make your tactics so predictable, was it Liam?

So it was the booing fans who got Alan Bennet sent off was it Liam?

Heres a solution. Why dont u save any self respect you may have for yourself and f off back into that little cave you know as your boot room. Your/ Our team were appalling today. You played a predictable 352, against one of the worst teams in the country. You played our best player out of position.
we have now scored 1 goal in 6 home matches
is that the booing fans fault as well is it Liam?

And another thing Liam, nobody really booed until after Limerick scored, so it wasnt any fans fault that your a crap manager.

Wishful Thinking

I'd say this is just wishful thinking by some people.

Probably why so few people look at the news section.

I had planned to bring some non eL fans along to Richmond next Sunday. Perhaps I should bring them to a Bohs game instead.

Glad I didn't go to the hassle of making to round trip from Dublin today

Benno was a fool today. He was already booked and he very clearly elbowed a Lims player infront of the Ref.

Limerick were just alround better than us. Outplayed by Limerick....oh the horror.
Oh no not them again

Angry

Thank God I missed that game. This is just like last season all over again. Was the attendance really that bad? What was the players' and Gunther's reaction after the game? Was there any comments from board members?

Most importantly, did City play like they actually wanted to win?

One or two big differences:

Last year we had an intelligent manager who had a plan, an ambition, and a drive to do well for Cork City. He turned up for SC meetings, he looked interested, he communicated with the fans, he gave a honest/good account of proceedings in the press.

This year we have LIAM ****in MURPHY. Who has Plan A, thats it. No interest in the supporters. Bullsh!t excuses every week in the Echo (obviously using Noel Spillage as his buddy in the Press).

If that ignorant BOLL!X doesn't quit I'll crack up. He's costing me a fortune on drink.........

I don't know, but this is getting like the Twilight Zone. It's absolutly f**king surreal. If I believed in such things, I'd say there was a curse or some sort of voodoo going on out in the X at the moment. I actually thought that the team were making an effort yesterday, and did try. It is just a shambles though, and then for Mulligan to miss from 6 yards with an open goal.......
Black f**king magic or something. 1 goal at home since December is so freaky, it's unbelieveable.......
I'd reckon less than 400 at the game, so less gate receipts, less money, lower wages, no money to sign players, more bad performances, less at the gate, which means less money, lower wages................
We are getting into a very bad cycle here.......

When i was told of the sending off & then Limerick scoring (thanxs Joe) unfortunately I wasn't the least surprised.

City have rarely played 3-5-2 as our wingbacks are always defenders & like to stay behind the ball. Obviously didn't see the game but i'd guess Limerick just knocked the ball into the corners behind our slow defense everytime they needed to get out of their own half?

Beaten at HOME by 2nd worst team in the league. Can the season get any worse?

I said before Murphy should be judged on his results. Results aren't going his way now & performances are poor.

What now............?

Funny thing about the Internet Niamh, you can post what you like whether it's true or not.
If you're looking for reliable news do you go to ericomleague.net?
It's a simple question.

Peadar the site is more popuar now than it ever is and more people visit the news section than any other. As for news of reliability - there was a rumour after the game that Murphy resigned FACT. I stated such. I withdrew the story after two hours because I thought it was better to.

To accuse me of looking for attention in this case is a bit over the top. Most people would not agree with you that the news section is unreliable and if I have a rumour on it I will clearly state that - and it rarely happens.

To be honest

from what i can see, it is that the news section is reliable, and normally the first port of call, and then the other media groups follow suit, the facts reportered normally do not differ that much as the stories unfold. Maybe one or two articles might not be acurate but when you look at other news sources and their content/fact is sometimes way off the mark, and alot of the time the research/material is very transparent if not blantly wrong. All in all .... IMO i think it is a great section. I think credit has to be given where it is due.
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

Agreed. I don't know where Peadar got the idea that "few people look at the News Section"? It's always my first stop.
