I agree.

Generally Irish fans are limited, really limited when it comes to creating an atmosphere (especially at home). We do create a great atmosphere away from home, with the odd exception.

The way I see it is you spend so much on your ticket why not make the most of it.

I remember when Scotland played here in 1999. Their fans where great. They got no reposnse at all from the Irish fans, even when it came to "stand up, if you hate england".

Go to an Ireland match now and ole ole is the best we can do. Where's the wit. At the Portugla match me and my friends start chanting "you're not the real Ronaldo", the response from around us was a few guffaws..but mostly it was like you were at mass.

U2 for Boys in Green?

IRISH fans want an instrumental version of U2 classic 'Where The Streets Have No Name' to be used to welcome the teams on to the pitch at Lansdowne Road.

"The crescendo reached following the booming bass line would raise everyone's adrenaline levels," suggested one contributor to the debate on foot.ie.

Italy's Alessandro Del Piero, who is a big U2 fan, reckons it is a perfect song for football.

I voted for The Sultans of Ping.

If we're going to play a U2 song it should be I Will Follow. Although I can see the anti-Keane brigade abusing it...

If/when the new stadium is finished with it's booming sound system then the last two minutes of "Soon" by MBV is the only way to go.

Feck it, just re-record the 1990 anthem. Classic guitar riffs and all.

I used to think "Where the streets have no name" was about New York because they streets are numbered, 42nd street etc.. also they had other
songs orientated towards America such as "Angel of Harlem" so I was not
sure if it was suitable from that point of view.
Anyway Bono's explanation here says it might be about Belfast, although
I am not entirely convinced.

It's not a convincing explanation to me because if the streets had no name
you wouldn't be able to tell what religion they were

Its a good song though, as is "The Irish Rover" which is the kind of song the
crowd could sing along too to build up an atmosphere.

"The Boys Are Back In Town" is another good one, it sends out the right
message, we are here to do a job and we mean business. Its a good entrance
theme and it would inspire the team and intimidate the opposition.

In fairness, while everyone agrees that the entrance music needs a change, in order to have a fair reflection of views and to have any kudos with the FAI, we'd want to have more than 35 voters so'd encourage as many people to exercise their democratic right and vote. VOTE NOW PEOPLE!!!

Just thought of a major downer for Where The Songs Have No Tunes -the opposition team have just walked out on the park and are greeted by a bunch of Irish singing "I want to Run -I want to Hide ...."

WTSHNN always used to make me cry when I was younger. U2 made Ireland cool at a time when it wasnt that cool to be Irish. The kinda said were staying up on this roof and were not coming down and the police were saying come down off the roof U2 and they said no and the people said gowan U2 and the police said stop that. Thats my twist on it. I started crying at the stage where there was a lad impaled on a street sign witha homemade I love U2 sign.

In summary - its two fingers at the world. Were Irish and proud. Come and try and pull us down if ya want.

Saying that, I used to cry to the Final Countdown on Sports Stadium when they used to show Ronnie Whelan scoring the volley against the USSR.

No contest.... Where the streets have no name.

Its ok to cry.
