I’m sure he was well looked after, he hardly did it for the love of the club

If he was well looked after, and I don't know whether he was or not, then he was the only one.

I seriously think Roddy is not the same manager since he got the bullet from Derry in 2014.. bit like Alan Mathews when he left Cork ten years ago!

Roddy should stick to his newspaper columns and punditry.. its time for the new brigade!
Gary Cronin is he the right man to manage Longford Town?

Obviously very serious issues going on at ATFC. Seems the only job Roddy can get is a "hopeless case" job that soon after turns out to be, well, hopeless.
he seriously needs to be more selective in the projects he gets involved in, enthusiasm is fine (and he has that in bucketfulls) but there is usually a good reason why everyone else is staying well clear.

worst manager i`ve ever seen. once saw him play with 1 centre back and two full backs (who still hugged the touchline) for the last 45 mins of a game after a sending off for Monaghan Utd. away to Cork City which they lost 6-0.
Myself and a mate watched in disbelief as he spent the whole second half standing in his trenchcoat on the line without opening his mouth once or change the formation that was killing them.
I`m sure a 10 man monaghan would have lost anyway but this was particularly bad management.

Worst manager you've ever seen? Its lucky you have never seen the Dundalk teams managed by Trevor Anderson or Sean McCaffrey(RIP)!! I dunno, getting Monaghan and Athlone promoted were no mean tasks and with no substantial means to invest. The above example is undoubtedly a strange one and I have to say that his Derry side was one of the worst to have visited Oriel Park. I think his problem was he always promised more than he was able to deliver and set himself up to fail with his ott optimism. He did have a hand in Shamrock Rovers probably 2 most humiliating experiences with the 5-6 game and relegation (chuck in winning the league with Bohs too) and for all his failings he has carved out an almost cult (no 'fixing the post' here) status. For the amount of people who would say they detest the guy and would have good reason, Derry, Rovers, Waterford fans to name a few, there are many more who dislike him a lot because they think they should cause other do!! and his 'flanker' moment on tv remains one of the best quips from a pundit when getting abuse. Things must be horrible at Athlone if even Collins has given up on them in the end.

Everyone gives Roddy credit for getting Monaghan promoted but all he did was finish 3rd. They finished 3rd the year before as well and didn't get promoted. Is there that much of a difference in the achievement, when really the only difference was the format?

Mick Cooke put the hard yards in Roddy just finished the job.

They did manage to win a play off, though I suppose given the Galway team they were facing it wasn't much of a challenge.
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.

Where's Magicme these days when ye need her - i'm pretty sure she credited Collins too for some of the better moments at Monaghan Utd.

Big difference, when being 3rd means something or means nothing.

Not anyway a Roddy fan but Monaghan were only two points shy off top spot in that very competitive 2011 First Division behind Cork and Shels who both had superior budgets and squads
The Leinster Senior League needs a strong Bohemians
