What is it that he did or didn't do?
He poorly managed the situation. Even with the best will in the world(which there isnt) he alienated the situation so the players agent had to confirm his commitment. If he had the correct level of communication with the player than Mon makes the statement to the media.
As far as I can see, when there was talk of Obafemi switching, O'Neill was asked and just gave a fairly generic 'it's his decision, we won't pressure him' comment.
Is there any more to it than that?
If that's all it is, I don't think there is much wrong with it.
