And he clearly doesn't regret picking up any of those caps: https://twitter.com/NathanRedmond22/...559370240?s=19
Just looking at Redmond on wiki - he has 78 caps for England at all levels.
I know that shouldn't matter if his mum's Irish, and I know it's good to see players apparently genuinely keen to play international football in this cynical day and age, but it does still seem a step too far. 78 caps like.
I think the issue again being highlighted here though is that we're really inadequate at bringing our own players through. We have to feed off English cast-offs as a result, which can only grate.

Nathan's "Irish" mum really has the green, white and orange running through her veins!
Is that Redmond's jersey? If so I think we can give her a pass for supporting her son....
I'm surprised Tets hasn't been in to move us all to the 'potential eligible players' thread.
Must be on Christmas leave from foot.ie. The place is falling apart without him.
The only thing we know is that Mick said he would meet with Redmond, I'm pretty sure Gary hasn't got the foggiest notion about Redmond, his ethnicity or what would be his motivation if he did reply in the positive.
But we do know that Gary doesn't put much thought into his ultra beliefs and is dumb enough to state "he's not even Irish", especially when considering Nathan was an automatic Irish national from birth.
According to Gary's reactionary gospel, Ciaran Clark was not even Irish, with his many appearances for England wiping away all trace of his Irish ethnicity. And when Ciaran was no longer selected for the England u21 euro qual squad, he declared for Ireland, as a career move and possibly a nice time at the Euros.
When you travel down the path of Gary's argument, behind his nationalistic guff just lies contradiction after contradiction.

Signed a new three-and-a-half year contract today: https://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2019...pton-contract/
Wait a minute, I thought it was impossible to commit to Ireland while in the process of negotiating a club contract - how does Obafemi manage it?
Manager spoke about him today, should be involved against Arsenal at the weekend: https://southamptonfc.com/news/2019-...er-league-1819
Came on as a sub and went off within 20 minutes due to a hamstring issue

You'd worry for a young lad long term who has persistant hamstring injuries. Can often lose them the explosiveness that made them a good player.
Hopefully they can fix it properly so that he has full season next
