Ronan Hale has signed on loan to Derry City until June. He's still only 19 so it's a good level for him to be getting a loan at, once he's afforded first team opportunities. His older brother Rory is there too, after he impressed for Galway United last season before their relegation.

I've said elsewhere that I believe that we seem to be very close to having a wave of top striking talent coming through and this does give me pause for thought, somewhat. Hale is the first of a group of strikers with excellent U18 scoring records - with 26 goals in 21 games, I think, his was particularly good and I guess I was hoping that was an indication that promotion to the Birmingham first team was imminent. However he seems to have found the step-up to U23 level a bit challenging and this move seems to indicate that he's not as close to a major breakthrough as some had hoped. That said, as you said, if he can get regular game time at Derry, it would give him an opportunity to get his career moving fast again by scoring a few goals at senior level. And with it being close to home and with his brother also there, it will hopefully be a comfortable environment in which to step up a level. So I do hope he does well (although not too well, as I am a Cork City fan)

In other transfer news, Burnley have sent former Man U academy defender Jimmy Dunne on loan to Accrington Stanley ("Accrington Stanley? Who're they?" "Exactly"). Apparently, he was on loan at Barrow for the first half of the season and scored a couple of goals for them: http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/42567010

Gavin Gunning has signed an 18-month deal with Forest Green:http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/42571426

And here's an interesting one: Teenage Waterford United striker Aaron Drinan has signed a three-and-a-half year deal with Ipswich and may feature in this Saturday's cup game, receiving praise from Mick McCarthy: https://www.itfc.co.uk/news/2018/jan...an-joins-town/

Corey Whelan signed a new contract with Liverpool a few weeks ago. He's now signed on loan with Yeovil until season's end.

Yeovil are presently 3 places above the relegation sports in League 2 and he'll find fellow Irishman Connor Smith there.

Fresh off the back of an uneventful half season spell at Newport County, Joe Quigley has signed for Boreham Wood on loan for the rest of the season. They play in the National League.

Biggest LOI move of the off-season so far: Warren O'Hora moves from Bohs to Brighton https://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2018...e-to-brighton/ - started at St. Kevin's Boys, before playing for Bohs' U17 and U19 teams - is this a sign that the national underage leagues are starting to show results?

Played 11 games for Bohs senior side last year too.

I wouldn't call it the biggest move of the off-season either. McEleney, Sule, McMillan all gone into first team squads. O'Hora is going into Brighton under-23 squad.
