If the limit of Rovers ambitions is to be the perennial 4th place team, then the defense is adequate for that. The 4 consecutive clean sheets and being the team with the 3rd best defensive record in the league is ok.
If you look at the current league table you will see a big gulf in results: the clean sheet and goals conceded record between Rovers to Cork and Dundalk is substantial. The 24 points gap to the top of the table and the goal difference of +17 to + 51 (is that a 300% difference?) illustrates the enormous ground to make up.
Watts, Greene & Mannus will help to bridge this gap for 2019, but a defence that is picking form these guys will continue to suffer
