Dean Shiels has signed for one and a half years for ourselves from Dunfermline.
Older, bigger (than what we have) players are exactly what we need.

Older for sure, but he is far from physically imposing. Should be a good addition

I thought Shiels did well in his limited game time at Dundalk in 2016. He didn't look out of place in a very good good team.

It's exatly the sort of signing Derry need. Good player, experienced head and Derry will be that bit less brittle when going a goal down as he doesnt shy away in adversity!

Garvan's left Pats according to their Facebook there now, bit of a strange one unless he's moving back across the water/ fell out with Bucko or something?

There were rumours of a falling out on our forum a while back, not sure how true they were. Pity he's gone, will be a loss I feel.
Out for a spell, got neglected, lay on the bench unselected.

find this part a bit strange but think i am in the minority..... his game time since he joined has been poor to say the least. He is also one of the most immobile players I have seen in the centre of the park. My only concern with him leaving is how much we wasted this year and if we had to pay him off at all.

I think you are in the minority. He was excellent on the ball, didn't give away possession. Also, I don't think he was as immobile as he looked. He has a very gammy looking run I'll grant you, but he mostly got where he needed to be.

absolutely top talent, especially in this league. I just mean due to him being croked/refusing to play, his contribution , especially this year has been minimal and therefor not a massive loss.

Micheal Schlingermann is now available after leaving Sligo Rovers, decent keeper and highly rated, heard Cork City were interested early on in the close season.

We took Cherrie instead though. Unless Cherrie was moving on, it wouldn't happen. Not sure schlingermann is much of an upgrade.

Has anybody else seen the AS Roma English twitter feed announce the Delaney signing? If you scroll down, there is mention of him saving the son of a Roma directer from a serious accident in London some time. The same account also tweeted Grazie Damien when he left Crystal Palace.

No idea if it is a genuine twitter account, although it does have the 'verified' tick beside it.

Its genuine alright. 227k followers along with that tick. I've heard that story before, it popped up on our forum at the time as Delaney is an ex (and now current) City player.

We now have the option to field the youngest (McCarthy and McLoughlin; combined age of 41) and the oldest (Bennett and Delaney; combined age of 73 as of July 20th) centre half pairing in the league.

Been too busy to post here recently but couldn't help myself from coming to say I'm delighted for Mikey, loved him at rovers and it's great to see him back in the game no matter the club
