Go away Lee...
Swansea star hopes promotion will boost Irish chances
March 5, 2005
Crowd-pleasing Swansea City striker Lee Trundle is hopeful that by helping the Swans to promotion from Coca-Cola League Two, he will take a step on the road to Irish international recognition.
The Liverpool-born star has been in exceptional form for the Welsh side over the past two seasons, and his 19 league goals this season have helped Kenny Jackett’s side to the midst of the promotion race.
And despite the fact that he will turn 29 later this year, late bloomer Trundle – who qualifies for Ireland through his Dubliner grandfather – hopes that he will yet make an impression at international level with the land of his forefathers.
He said: “The last thing I heard was that Brian Kerr wouldn’t pick me while I was playing in this division, but hopefully we won’t be in League Two for too much longer.
"If we can win promotion and I start scoring goals in League One, then he might take a serious look at me because I believe that I’m capable of playing international football."
I don't think he has any chance of a call up unless somebody takes a risk from a higher division but I don't think it will happen. Obviously a very confident player but if he was that good he wouldn't be playing for Swansea!!
Go away Lee...
Go on Lee! Love him.![]()
...at least he seems 2 have his head screwed onlol....so if he thinks he's capable of playing international football y dont he play for england!...more like he thinks ireland are short on the striking front and wants to get a cap to retire with!! lol
just imagine the sleepless nights boumsong and co. would have when they saw the name of Lee Trundle - Swansea City in our squad...lol
livehead, don't just presume. Trundle turned down Northern Ireland last year, he not only could have got a cap with them but first team football and a bit of exposure. He's realistic and knows he'll never be a first teamer with Ireland, all he wants is a chance to play for the team he loves (like me and you).
"Even when I was a kid I grew up supporting Ireland even though I lived in England, and all my mates had England kits on I always had an Ireland kit on so it’s not something that’s just cropped up, it’s always been in my family, all the time."

ok lets start a bit of a debate here(sense the irony)lol
do people think that lee trundle is:
a) an over-rated and over-confident player
b) a potential international
c) a late developer
d) a never developed player
e) a waste of talent
you can pick more than one
i think a and c
I think Trundle is leagues ahead of the players he's playing against atm but not international quality. This is only something like his fourth season in England but it came too late.
John Aldridge was playing in the lower leagues with Oxford until he was the same age as Trundle is now. He went on to get 69 caps. There is a slim chance.![]()

The only striker we have that is clearly better than him is Keane. Doesn't say a lot for us.Originally Posted by DE TOWN
I know. Strikers are our weak point at the moment.Originally Posted by eirebhoy
McGeady isn't a striker and as much as I admire Morrison he has not proved to be clearly better than Trundle with his 14 premiership goals in almost 3 seasons.
Thought that was George Bernard Shaw!Originally Posted by Tuff Paddy
I just couldn't see Trundle having too much of a problem scoring 14 premiership goals in almost 3 seasons.Originally Posted by Tuff Paddy
BTW, I'm not saying he should get a call up. I'd give Jason Byrne a callup before him.

Not international quality, although you could say that about some of the shyte thats gets in the intl squad because we dodn't have any strikers. Keane is good and Morrisson is decent, apart from that?
Alan Lee isn't much kop, but not the worst, McGeady isn't good enough yet, too young, not much else there, wouldn't mind seeing Elliot get another bash, Macken is wánk
He's good enough but not a striker.Originally Posted by fizzure
Why not give him a chance in a friendly, what harm can it do?
That time could be useful for players like Elliott.Originally Posted by holidaysong
