He scored as well, afgter about 11 minutes, but I thought he came in from the right for the goal?

So Keegan let him go for the same reason he let Whelan go, he was thinking of the players. Don't see why he couldn't have sent him out on loan though I'm not complaining.

"Paddy can argue that he never got a chance and that’s a fact. But he never got a chance because of the form of Sylvain and Richard and also that Nedum Onuoha is an exceptional talent.

"We could have kept him here for another year and a half – it might have been wise to do that bearing in mind the size of our squad. But it was right for Paddy to go to Leicester and play for a manager like Craig Levein.

"He will teach him a lot because he has played in that position. He will be playing in big games that really matter rather than in reserve games that are just there for players to get their fitness.

"Paddy has been great at this club. He has been here a long time but he has never come and knocked my door down and said anything wrong. He has been an absolute model professional and I think he will end up playing Premiership football."

He'd been out on loan twice, would really have given him the wrong idea with so little left on his contract to send him out on loan again. Better to get something for him now, rather than nothing next season

Paddy McCarthy played last night against Burnley and was solid as a rock. Happened to be driving up M1 in England last night and heard some of the report on Leicester radio. They said he defended well, took no chances but at the same time was good on the ball and didn't just lump it away, this move could be the making of the man.

Check out the last few posts in the "Irish Players in England..." sticky above.

There's a new poster who is a season ticket holder at Leicester & he's given his views on all the Irish at Leicester, including the youth teamers.

    Really useful stuff.

    Paddy McCarthy

According to the Daily Star (sorry I haven't got a link), Fulham boss, Chris Coleman is lining up a bid to sign Paddy McCarthy from Leicester to replace Zac Knight. I’ve seen McCarthy play, and his is just as good, if not better, than the impressive Paul McShane. This move would be a good one for the centre half.

That sort of talk is always ripe coming to the end of a season. The Daily Mail , I believe, had it yesterday that Martin O'Neill was looking at McShane last Saturday.

Well Villa could do worse than McShane and if any PL managers were looking at our last few games then they should be interested. McCarthy is an interesting one and given our lack of options at CB I can't really understand why Stan hasn't had a look at him in the senior squad, apparantly its something to do with his on field discipline but we're not exactly spoilt for choice there and he'd only be cover anyway.

What planet are you from? McCarthy is nowhere near the quality of McShane ffs. He isn't even a regular starter for Leicester anymore who are sh*t. He's also a lot older so is unlikely to improve much (about 24 I think). Did I mention he gets booked every match and sent off every second match?

He's 23 so is years away from his peak.

He is injured and out for the rest of the season.

McShane's discipline is almost as bad as McCarthy's.

He isn't starting because he's injured. McShane is 21, McCarthy is 23. He's had 9 bookings in 22 games, hardly "every game". One red card this season too.
All goals, yellow and red cards tweeted in real time on mastodon, BlueSky and facebook

Slight exageration. I thought this was obvious but in reality a booking every 2 games is hardly a good disciplinary record. Recently he's been demoted to the bench when fit. He's also 24 in a few weeks if we want to be exact about it.

And he's nowhere near the player McShane is.

When McCarthy was playing, wasn't he the Leicester captain, or was that just for a couple of games?
