    Question New Lad

Hi guys I'm new to this board but I have being keeping up with all the gossip that ye are writing. In relation to whats happening at Celtic it is true that Maloney has signed along with Burke from Ballinrobe and O'Dwyer from Silgo Rovers, and news in the pipeline is that there are three or four more to join in the next week or so. Its a big decision to take in bringing in those lads and moving on others that played all their lives but as Dykes said "I'm not here to win friends". Also news reaches me that Westport and Manulla have being in touch with Keith Bourke, one of those lads that was frozen out at Celtic. Remember only a few years ago he was the best player in Mayo by a mile and also a top player in the Senior League, before Micheal McNicholas started playing him out of position and he just went downhill from there. I remember the free-kick he scored against Manulla in the semi of the Connaught Cup definately the best goal I have ever seen. Just wondering if Dykes or the great Fergie can afford to say "no thanks" to that sort of talent when a club like the Port are willing to take him on board. Any thoughts?

Well one thing is for sure Dykes has not made any friends so he's true to his word there!. Keith is not going to be the only disgruntled player in the celtic camp, scottie has left and some of the younger players are becoming impatient with the lack of Junior action.

Connacht cup is mimimum requirment for Mr.Dykes now. Is'nt D.Scanlon gone back to Sligo? Burke & Moloney are wide players, some native is sure to lose out.Still, wages and car have to be justified and results are the only way of doing that! Any word on a name for that young goalkeeping hero from the 'heane? And who's got the inside track on the Manulla player meeting? I hear Nicks is considering an offer from Ballina, must be too much turmoil in Balla.

Have Celtic approached every decent player in the county about playing for them. One of their senior mentors has been saying that they are close to signing 2 Wesport players! Find this very hard to believe.

Castlebar Celtic can bring in who they like - You cant build team spirit and I wonder how long it will take Mr. (Billy No Mates) Dykes to gel a squad of people together if he keeps shipping players out and in. I have absolutely no fear in them getting ex/current LOI players, the only thing they'll probably do is bleed the club dry.

That said, it is a bit sad to see local talent being tossed on the scrapheap beacuse of the club's lust for success. Celtic, not so long ago, won Connacht Cups with a totally local team so why the need to decimate local players now?

On the subject of Westport players signing for Castlebar - one word - POPPYCOCK!

No-one I know (alive or dead) would dream of it. And if they did, they had better uproot (bag and baggage as they used to say in school) and move to Castlebar as well. Foolish imps!

    Keith Bourke - Fishead Supreme.

I think Maloney spent a season with Sligo.

Yes Maloney played with Rovers for couple of seasons, but Ithink he only ever played a few cup matchs at senior level. Gnasher Celtic are calling to players houses looking for them to sign, god only knows what been promised to them. Yet again the lesser clubs are powerless to do anything to stop them. I wonder if the Mayo League will step in ?. Sorry have to go a pig just flew past my window!.

With all the speculation on Castlebar Celtic, is there trouble in the camp when there are stories of more players being brought in from outside and some players that grew up with the hoops leaving for other clubs? I saw Dykes in action for Celtic once over the summer and I must admit that I would not be a fan of his overpowering prescence on his players. He had words with a player for not being aggressive enough. I would feel intimidated playing under him.

Watched Celtic training recently, they looked like a bunch of happy campers. Mabe thoughts of Con cup blocking out the shouting. Good to see Mayo teams doing well in the Con cup R1, hope it continues. Nothing like a good cup run to shake off a traumatic summer. Any odds on C'morris completing the double next sun, Div1 & Tonra cup? What's happened to the 'heane sources for the keeper's name at u12?

I think Westport 'B' will be sticking with the same bunch of lads they've had all year. They owe Claremorris one.

I have seen both games they played this year and they were very close so it might be the odd goal in five or the dreaded peno's. I'm going for the 'B' Team. If they stop that Glynn guy (which they did in the home match) Claremorris don't have much else.

Premier Division Teams for next year - take note of my wisdom.

I'm off to help the don catch that flying pig, they're quite rare you know.

    Fai Cup

Well Conn cup games went reasonably well. The FAI is next Sun, plenty of shocks in store there I presume. Lots of transfer activity already, certainly Celtic seem to mean business this Year. Rumours of strife in some clubs ie The Heane exodus to C/Bar Utd. Manulla's players revolt. McNicholas being sought by Manulla but opting for Ballina Instead - Money talks obviously and that should mean the end of Ballina and 'keeping it on the deck' football for next year, pity really as they where ok, rudderless but ok. The Port to roll on inexorably though !!

Yeah, the Ballinrobe man in question is Ger Burke, who plays on the wing generally and is a really talented, tricky player. I have no idea if he is the guy Celtic are supposed to have signed but if they have it's a handy piece of business. He played on the Sligo Rovers reserve team I think, and even made the squad for their full team a couple of times. He's about 20.
I think that Westport are going to shade Claremorris at the weekend, they have a few defenders who are well capable of dealing with Derek Glynn and are strong throughout. Looking forward to our derbies with them next year!

    Mossy

Might you have been a little harsh on Nix in your last comment. The Town have been playin 'on the deck' football for quiet a while ,without a qualified coach. That sort of football comes naturally to the vast majority of Town players and surely, the arrival of a someway qualified man can only bring a bit of structure and solidity to the team., without taking away that brand of football.
