    Red face

I meant it'd be great to see Celtic go down. Although after thinking about it, it wouldn't be the best for Mayo Soccer. With Westport winning every game they play lately, we need someone to challenge them and at the moment it doesn't seem like anyone is close to them. Table toppers Manulla lost 3-0 to them, not quite 8-0 but this was Manulla with something to play for. I shouldn't say too much though, Snugboro are playing Westport tomorrow evening.

    Elvery's Super League

    Westport United 0-0 Snugboro United

The Boro had to resort to hoofing in the second half against the wind but it's horses for courses in this game. Snugboro had a better first half in my opinion.
    Fairly happy with the result.

In the end, Snugboro celebrated like it was a victory, and Westport looked like they lost. Port had a couple of long range efforts and a few balls that flew across the box but the Boro keeper didn't have any great saves to make, one that he hit off the post but he was standing on the post at the time. I'd say a draw was a fair result.

Please elaborate on what seems to be a sensational story. Is this ground breaking stuff that would rock Mayo soccer to its foundations?

The Mayo League are forcing clubs to give their best young players to the League for the U-21 League, this basicaly means that the clubs player becomes the property of the league and cannot play for their team if they are on the U-21 squad. All super league teams are against the league on this,
but the league are refusing to even talk to the clubs, so that brings me back to my original comment is the league there for the good of its clubs or just for their own glory!

Another reason for the clubs discontent is some of the ridiculous suspensions handed out to clubs this year. 2 Westport players recieved 6&5 games did they shoot somebody! Leagues are meant to be won on the pitch not in a disciplinary meeting, was this not the reason why Joe Butler called it a day. So it seems farcical that Pat Guigley could accuse the FAI junior council of making up their own rules when the Mayo League seem unable to follow even their own. Except when it suits them of course.

It was a fair result only for the fact Snugboro defended very well, and Westport still wouldn't have scored if they were still there.

Snugboro hardly got out of their own half in the second half.

Have to hand it to them, the defended very well. The Westport strikers should be embarrased. Keiran Murphy is about 45. (i think the name and age are correct).

The Snugboro keeper looked useful too.

Celtic winning 2-1 at Straide has helped them in a big way. The cup draw has suited them too playing the "B" team on thursday night. That could be interesting and Westport are playing Snugboro(again). Thursday will be a fun night!

Gnasher says: Lads, Snugboro are a good side from what i have seen. They are dogged and useful enough in attack and the team seems to have a good spine so fair play to them. nice to see a team from the county town doing well for a change!
Regarding westport - Basic facts are as follows:
1 - Been playing constantly for three years (young team , burnout? anyone?)
2 - Are currently the team everyone and his granny wants to beat in mayo so every team is going to defend like their lives are on it and try to sneak one. This is hard to play against, week in week out.
3 - Like to play football. Any team with a good defence who tries to 'hoof' it into westport will upset their game. Whether it works at all depends on (a) how long they keep it up for, and (b) whether Westport start getting annoyed and making mistakes. That said, I do not blame any team for employing whatever tactics they think are required to win. It's just ugly to watch and when you're paying to watch it's even worse.
4 - Are not invincible; ok I admit it, they are human.
5 - Are probably going to win the league if they can keep the tempo up, but sport has a habit of kicking you in the sweets whan you least expect it, so if it does happen, we'll party. if it does not, who cares, the league could do with someone else winning it. And so on.

On another note, Fair play to all the teams who have appreciated the 'Ports exploits in the Junior cup by clapping them onto the pitch. At the end of the day (oh, I'm milking the cliche's now), we are all Mayo soccer supporters and its been a great year for Mayo soccer. Whoever continues the trend of winning national and provincial honours, I for one, am behind them.

Sorry about the rambling on but I was saving a few things i had to say up for the right time.

always good luck to the two mayo teams playing galway on sunday especially to the mayo minors as a swinford man leading the team out against galway!! hope they both win.

    Cul Mon!

Gnasher says: Big up to the brethern from Beal Atha Na Muice!

Fair Play to ya SwinfordFC. I have spent so many years and a lot of hard earned cash following the men in green and red too. I'm not going Sunday though, I think if I stay away this year they might do something good for a change . After Kilkenny, Gnasher now only supports one code in the flesh, and boy are Mayo lucky, they would'nt understand 'Ooh to be a Covey' in Pearse Stadium methinks!!!

Gnasher says: Snugboro to beat Westport mon. The port are really struggling with injuries. The B has been raided as they have no game this weekend (Urlaur utd have dropped out of the league). Can't see Snugboro putting out a weak team as this is a decent chance for silverware for them.

    Snugboro United 3-2 Westport United,

Great stuff from the Boro in the first 20 of each half, Westport put them under pressure again but the Back 4 were brilliant. The Port fought back from 3-0 down and a penalty and Vinny O'Malley header got them back in contention and could of got the third were it not for great keeping from Mick Wallace

    Good Prediction Gnasher

    And Celtic A beat Celtic B 6-0
