Are there any Mayo League Awards do ye know and if so,who do ye reckon will win ..what are the awards
Ballina Town under The Nix next season will be formidable opponents and will surely throw the gauntlet for the super league. As for Castlebar Celtic bringing players from all over, I think that it is a serious mistake because Celtic has so many B players fighting to get onto the main squad and there is a vast stream of underage talent coming through. Players will become disillusioned and leave the club and it will set Celtic back twenty years. A quick term solution never achieve your long term goals. I heard that Westport United brought in Derry players years ago and it created so much division that the club nearly went out of existence. If Dykes is not careful; remember at the beginning when he said that there would be no players brought in; his current policy will be the death knell of Castlebar Celtic and Mayo soccer can ill afford to exist without the club.![]()

Yes, its hard to know what can be done to keep clubs more parocial, if that is what the majority want. No body can buy loyalty, and if players do'nt have it from an early age, it cant be taught later on. It would be a shame if all the good Celtic work at underage goes to waste. Westport, without imports, also have re built a successful underage structure and are looking ominous for years to come.
p.s (What 's happened to the 'heane sources for this wonder U12 keeper?)
PLEASE TELL THIS PERSON WHO THE HELL THE PLAYER IS !!! AS THE HEANE HAVE SUCCESSFULLY KEPT THEIR PLAYERS AWAY FROM MAYO TEAMS IN THE PAST AM I TO PRESUME THIS IS TO CONTINUE INTO THE FUTURE !! AFTER ALL IS IT NOT EASIER TO GET INTO THE MAYO TEAM THAN CELTIC. WELL IT WAS LIKE THIS BEFOREOriginally Posted by Manfred
does anyone have any information on the continuous confusion on when the tuohy cup final will be played between ballinrobe and crossmolina??
I see Manulla have appointed their Favouritre Ref again for their potential Banana skin against the Glass. They must be worried !!
Any truth in the rumour that they are spending theit lotto cash on buying this ref a house in manulla as it would probably save them cash in the long run because he refs them so often. It used to be Mick Walsh but he must have only given them 5 dodgy decisions in a match so he must be replaced.
Hard to see how they can hold their heads up but I suppose they are used to strokes being pulled for them by now !!!
Well done to Claremorris who beat Westport B 3-2 in Milebush on Sunday to take the First Division double of league and cup. My prediction that the Westport defence could handle Derek Glynn was laughably inaccurate, particularly in the first half, when he caused absolute havoc, scoring all three goals and destroying the 'Port with his pace. Westport were better in the second half but a lack of pace throughout the team should be a cause for concern. The stormy weather did not help the match, but Claremorris should be happy with their season and be looking forword to the Premier division.
November sometime for the Touhy Cup final from the last I heard from John Durcan.
Yeah, Well done to Claremorris. They were good for ten minutes of the first half which saw them get three goals. I don't think you should start knocking Westport B though mister Fahy, what silverware have ye got for your year of toil in the premier? I hear ye dumped the guy who brought ye from divison two to the premier in two years so unless you're awfully dumb or just stupidly confident I would not bother riling teams who will be facing your crowd of homeless weannabes next year. If you were at that game then maybe you failed to see the blatant offside for two of the goals your star Mister Glynn scored. Linesmen would want to get some B*LLS in Mayo and not just shirk responsibility.
Either way, it was a B team versus a full on town team. They'll meet again and have good battles, while ye'll still be wondering how far you could have gone if you'd kept a real manager.
In all fairness Gnasher I was not trying to knock Westport B in any way, if you looked at any of the previous posts I have written I have always been more than happy to see local teams doing well, particularly Westport, who I congratulated on behalf of our club when they achieved so much over the last year. So launching an attack on us seems pointless and a bit juvenile.
Also, Fahy Rovers never "dumped" any manager, he chose to leave of his own volition. AND, we got to the Premier division from the second in three years, not two. So if you want to accuse us of being "dumb" or "stupidly confident" you might as well get your facts correct first.
I was at the match last Sunday and I was aware that Glynn was offside for one of his goals anyway, but my point that he was too fast for the Westport defence still holds true.
Making comments like "ye'll still be wondering how far you could have gone if you'd kept a real manager" is childish and unnecessary. I was only commenting on the match and saying well done to the winners, as I would have done had ye won. Saying "it was a B team against a full on town team" is a petty excuse; it did not hold Castlebar B back against every other team in their division this year.
Any word on the Crossmolina V Ballinrobe divisional cup final??

Apologies for not getting my sums right FahyForever, how could I have forgotten that golden year? It's just my childish forgetfulness.
You obviously did'nt hink it was worth mentioning to the forum that your manager had... (how can I put this more eloquently?).. jumped ship. You must not have too many tears for him. Did he leave because he failed to get ye to the superleague? I'm not asking for all intenal club info. to be posted just think there's more to this story than is being said.
Maybe the club were involved in positioning the ship so the jump would not be too far..... just my opinion.
If you still think I'm juvenile.....reply.
Gnasher, you seem to be fairly muddled on this topic. Your notion of our management is pretty different to mine! The manager who brought us out of the second division left midway through our third season. We got promoted to the Premier division at the end of that year. Regarding the season just gone, we started out with a joint management structure and then one man took over for the rest of the season. He resigned after our defeat to Crossmolina in the play-off. I hope this clears things up for you! Any dark motives suggested by yourself are off the mark, we have had two managers and both of them decided to resign of their own accord. Both are on good terms with the club.

Hopefully we can put this one to bed, I'll ask the question in a different way:Originally Posted by mossy
is there a question mark over the age of the 'heane U12 keeper? Would that explain his absence from the county team? OR LETS JUST HAVE HIS NAME!
For the record he was the man of the match when Claremorris beat 'heane in the U12 league in Claremorris.
Nice to see Derek Glynn getting a run out with the oscar traynor squad; any thoughts on the strike force for the county team? D.Glynn & V.O'Malley?
D.O'Malley & M.Duffy. M.Duffy & D.Glynn?
Tuohy cup final rumoured for Nov 13th. Oscar Traynor on 30th Oct. Nov 6 is R3 junior cup
Manfred found out the info you so badly needed!.
Evan J Mulgrew. b. 30/3/93.
So even by my calculations he would be..... I'll just leave that to you to figure out.
By all accounts a good keeper but not intercounty standard.
Thanks to the Don, query put to bed - for the moment.
Back to the business on the pitch, how about this for a midfield -
Fergal Quinn, Eoin McCormack, Fergal Forde and James Burke? Burke wide left, F.Q on the right, two play makers in the middle, young & old!
Ballina T to do well.
I'm surprised to hear James is returning. Any more apart from him and Eoin? Ian O'Dowd, maybe?
Snugboro 4-1 Achill
played with McCormack and Burke with rovers a few years ago and both of them are class players, also O'Dowd has a lethal finish so they will do well.Originally Posted by Manfred
BTW is David O'Mahoney playing soccer these days or just GAA?
