Heard a new story about $hel$ that they budget the season on the basis of no fans. Isn't this taking the 'no fans' joke a bit far?
Apparently $hel$ have so many sidelines going on
- charity matches
- international underage matches
- FAI Cup final
- Shamrock Rovers & I think had some dublin junior club recently as tenants.
- Income from the club bar.
- Selling international & maybe even ManU tickets
- After dinner speeches
- even played Rugby League matches there!
was reading a business magazine a while back (can't remember the name) and they had a focus on football, looking at Tottenham Hotspurs and Aberdeen. Basically the same goes for Aberdeen, they plan their budget without taking gate receipts into account, while Spurs base theirs on the team performing as badly as possible (out of the cups in first round away ties and comfortable mid-table position secured mid-way through the season, ie neither the excitement of challenging at the top nor trying to avoid the drop to draw the punters in, etc.)
Club cannot survive on gate receipts alone. Club need non-football revenue to grow.
With the success of the club lotto amoung others i think Citys revenue is surely peaking. They must be loosing out on a huge amount of cash without a bar licence.
