Impressive display by Waterford as they dominated the south-east derby in Ferrycarrig tonight and won as comfortably as the scorelinesuggests. After the difficulties whichWexford had caused Waterford in the previous game at the RSC, Damian Locke went for a more expansive approach by starting with three wingers and Waterford’s midfield profited greatly from the additional space with Sander Puri and Paul Keegan outstanding. Wexford startedwith Danny, Craig, Ross, Owen, Conor, Adam, Crokey, Mikey, Dean, Adam andAaron. Waterford began the better of thetwo teams and got a couple of crosses into the Wexford penalty area, but the quality wasn’t great and they generally gave Danny Bolger plenty of time to come and collect. On 12 minutes, Sander Puri got a yellow for a dive just outside the Wexford penalty area. The same Waterford player then tested DannyBolger with a turn and shot seven minutes later, but Bolger was equal to the task. Wexford’s best chance of the half came on 22 minutes when Adam Hanlon’s cross found Aaron Dobbs free in the Waterford box but the latter couldn’t keep his header on target. Three minutes later, Waterford took the lead when a searching ball by Kenny Browne found Mark O’Sullivan in the Wexford penalty area and his deft finish put the Blues a goal ahead. O’Sullivan then tested the side-netting a minute later and Wexford’s Adam O’Rourke got a yellow for a tackle. Ross Kenny then got his head onto a Wexford free but couldn’t keep it down. Just as Wexford looked like going in only one goal behind, the killer second goal was secured by Waterford when O’Sullivan drove a low shot into the net after Puri had held the ball up well inside the Wexford penalty area. 2-0 to Waterford at half-time.

Waterford continued to dominate possession for most of the second half but without posing a huge amount of scoring threat while Wexford, without the ball, found it hard to raise Matt Connor from his slumbers between the Waterford sticks. Subs during the course of this half for Wexford were Duxey Dunne, Aaron O’Connor and Danny Doyle. Martin then scored a third for Waterford on 75 minutes when an error in the Wexford defence gifted him a tap-in. With five minutes to go, Kenny Browne amazingly avoided any sanction when he dived across Aaron Dobbs’s path to prevent him bearing in on goal after a rare error by Browne. Danny Doyle then got a yellow for roughing up Paddy Barrett before Danny Bolger pulled off a fine save to keep the final score at 3-0. Best for Wexford were Ross Kenny, Mikey Byrne and Owen McCormack while Waterford impressed all over the pitch with O’Sullivan and Drinan being the pick of the bunch in addition to Puri and Keegan. A very healthy attendance from Waterford brought the crowd to about 700.

Was at this last night. Big difference between the two sides. Waterford were physically much bigger and won nearly every physical duel in the 90 minutes. Waterford played some decent football especially the front four and Paul Keegan. Mark O'Sullivan scored two goals and bullied the Wexford defense all night although the first was possibly offside. Drinan also looks a very useful player.

Wexford sat too deep and for the first 75 minutes got no support up to their striker (Dobbs I think) who had a thankless task. Your midfield sat far too deep but put no real pressure on the Waterford players and so Waterford were able to play through the midfield with relative ease. Ye picked up a little in the last 15 minutes and Kenny Browne was lucky not to get sent off for a last man tackle that the referee bizarrely didn't even give a free for. All in all it was a comfortable win for Waterford.

First time in Ferrycarrig Park and there was a good crowd there last night mostly from Waterford who produced a good atmosphere. Ye have a decent setup out there for a club of your size and the people there were friendly and helpfully but the ground like Buckley Park is, is really too far out from the town and is very awkward to get to especially if you don't have a car.

I agree with that summary. My 2nd time at Ferrycarraig Park and nice set up there but ground awkward to get to and should be signposted better off the main road. 871 at game last night and maybe 700 from Waterford.
