    Scott Hogan (F Birmingham b.1992)

Hogan's goals from last night are at 2:15 & 4:40. Second is a beaut.

For anybody bothering to watch the full video - Jake Doyle-Hayes is the fair haired chap wearing No.32. He played 78 minutes and received a lot of plaudits.

Why? he's made himself available. Or did Rooney retire so they could show the Hulkster he could take Wayne's place if he changed his mind? Conspirators would like to know.

O'Neill gives the impression he'd be open to the idea of debuting Scott Hogan (or even Seáni Maguire) next month, despite the fact O'Neill has never before given a player a debut in a competitive game: https://www.thesun.ie/sport/football...-a-goalscorer/

“But we’ll see, you never know what the month might bring in terms of players playing a wee bit of extra football at club level, even in the Championship, and maybe just be ready for it.”
Whilst it sounds like the possibility isn't completely closed, I'd say it's still quite improbable in light of O'Neill cautious, conservative nature. He had another chance to throw Daryl Horgan on the other night, for example, but declined, presumably on account of Horgan's lack of experience. Although maybe having nothing to lose may change O'Neill's approach come October... Who knows?

I still find it odd he went with O'Dowda instead of Horgan the other night.

We are so lacking for goalscorers, though, that this could really provide the only exception. I think he would pick Hogan long before Maguire also. His lack of faith in Maguire whilst he was with Cork won't have been completely eradicated by some brilliant performances at Preston until they provide goals.

We have to be able to create clear-cut chances for potential goal-scorers to score goals as well though and that's something we seriously struggle with. In fairness to Shane Long, he finished brilliantly against Germany and Moldova when he was presented with chances, but most of the time (and especially without Wes), he's just isolated because of how we're set up (just as Robbie was), so he simply doesn't get the opportunities.

I think he would pick Hogan long before Maguire also. His lack of faith in Maguire whilst he was with Cork won't have been completely eradicated by some brilliant performances at Preston until they provide goals.
I'd have the same feeling myself for some reason. Dunno why; just my gut feeling that he'd still be afraid to take the risk and trust Maguire ahead of a more established Championship player like Hogan.

Nah, the game against Mexico at the start of June was his debut. He came on as a second-half sub.

Scott Hogan on deciding to play for Ireland (during today's press conference after his first international training session):

"I've a big family back in Carlow. It wasn't a difficult decision. Injuries delayed my arrival but I've always wanted to be here."

Hogan will be out until the new year after he was operated on to clear an "extremely rare" blockage in his bowel last Tuesday night: https://www.thesun.ie/sport/football...ss-to-denmark/

It seems he fell ill during the second half of the Denmark game and was taken to the Mater Hospital for surgery.

One of the few players who didn't sh*t himself on the night though.

I would not be surprised to see him loaned out in the second half of the season to see if he can get his momentum back.

Villa really short on strikers at present ... will not be loaned out!
