Richard Keogh D Forest Green Rovers b.1986

Had a scan through the Irish player thread and didn't notice anything on this guy. He joined Derby at the start of the season and is their captain. Seems to be playing solid stuff on a regular basis. Was Coventry POTY the last two seasons. Has represented us at U21 level.

I blogged about him the morning of the Georgia game - http://irish-abroad.appspot.com/Blog - which worked out well for all concerned

I plan on blogging about Conor Sammon on the morning of the Faroes game, just to see if I can repeat the process...dun, dun DUNNNN!!

An amazing influx of Derby County players all at once really, all three directly involved in three of our goals on Sunday. Clough feels it could help Derby also.

Hendrick and Keogh are welcome additions regardless. Sammon would be grand too if we weren't running the risk of him actually starting important games, at the expense of better players.

Picked up a knee injury at the weekend and will be out of four weeks. In contrast to the quote above, McClaren feels he has been a key part of their recent improvement. Player of the year twice at Coventry and last season with Derby, their supporters obviously take a different view also.

Hopefully this might open a spot on the bench for Mark O'Brien, if he is nearly ready.

Defender edging closer to a return after a "good week" training

The team has done brilliantly without him in recent weeks
    Really Steve, brilliantly?

    Barnsley (a) W2-1
    Huddersfield (a) D1-1
    Wigan (h) L0-1
    Chelsea (h) L0-2
    Leicester (a) L1-4

I saw the Leicester game and it should have been eight or nine... no exaggeration. Nugent and Vardy absolutely destroyed Buxton and the young lad, Keane, on loan from Man Utd. They could have done with Keogh for a bit of strength and experience.

Saw it too and yeah, it really could have been any score.

Straight back into the side and was supposed to have been "immense" in their vital 1-0 win over Brighton. It puts Derby eight clear of Brighton in 7th and was their first clean sheet since Keogh's last game before getting injured.

Corkman, Damien Delaney, has kept 7 clean sheets in 13 games for Crystal Palace in the Premier League. His partnership with Gabbidon has been a key part in Palace's rise up the table.

Decent options we have; Dunne, O'Shea, Clark, Delaney, Pearce, Duffy, McShane, Keogh

That doesn't even include Sean St Ledger, who has arguably been a better player at International level than club level over the last few years.

Now if only Dunne and O'Shea were two years younger and Mark O'Brien could stay fit.

I get that he's down your pecking order but I'm not sure how you consider him a "decent option" after this?

Keogh states for the 9th or 10th time in the last 12 months that he hopes to be involved in "next squad".

I find it irritating how he keeps saying the same thing before every squad get-together and complaining every time he is left out. There are well over half-a-dozen players competing for two places in the first team and five in the squad, most of them playing in the Premier League. Not everyone is going to play and not everyone is going to get called up. Certainly not everyone is going to whinge or stake their claim to the press every month.

Damien Delaney has about 8 caps. He only made his first competitive appearance in October. Does he keep talking about prospective/lack of call-ups. No. He gets on with it. As should Keogh.

Normally I wouldn't say anything about this. It's normal to want to play International football but when you keep going on about it, to the point where it is genuinely at least the 6th or 7th time in the last 12 months, it starts to become very irritating and even inappropriate and disrespectful.

How do you feel about this, Stutts?

Answering a question positively in the local press is hardly causing much of a frenzy. And to think you want to cut Stephen Ireland some slack.

Much ado about nothing. No harm in being keen on a call up but I'd agree that he's down the pecking order. If it's that irritating don't go reading the Derby Telegraph!

    Annoying alright.
They seem to be just asking Richard. No other Irish footballers, Hendrick and Sammon included, seemed to be asked the same questions on such a recurring basis.

Richard's aggressiveness over a call up is plain strange to me. Aside from Dunne and St Ledger, there are 5 center backs playing regularly in the Premier League. Then there is the younger and more highly rated Alex Pearce and Shane Duffy.

    Aggressiveness (sic)?

I don't see what winds you up so much about this especially, as said above, you're keen to cut Stephen Ireland so much slack when he gives us all two fingers. It's not like either seeks out the press to get their thoughts across.

When did he complain about missing out on a call up to the squad? Also, Irish player wants to play for country. Shock, horror.
